I have seen lots of free posts and good deals lately. Way to go people sometimes life is not about the almighty dollar. When I first started I received lots of good deals to help me along it is cool to see people who have been helped helping others :beerchug:

Ditto that! I can't even express how grateful I am to everyone who took an interest in this newbie and helped me along with advice, good deals, and even some very nice free frags.

on another site they had a thermos swap. Someone puts a mystery frag in a thermos and passes it on and the next person does it and so on. I think there was a list to keep track of who has the thermos. They did it with zoas cause it was cheaper to ship I think. We can do whatever cause most of us are local. If enough people want to do this we can do it here too. Good way to spread corals in the group and noobs might get lucky and get a nice piece.

Disagree

I like to get a frag for a good deal then grow it out and sell it for more than I paid for it!!

Only kidding!! Having a bunch of people willing to help others out with this expensive hobby makes it that much better. TCMAS is a great group of generous people. Thanks all for your help!!

I think the genrousity we have going around here may be the only hope for the world's reefs. I think when the ocean cannot sustain corals anymore we we be VERY thankful for all the larry jackson and scripps stag frags that were given away in abundance :)

The same goes for aquacultured fish, drive the price down as well as the demand for ones taken from the reef.

That's the problem, aquacultured will always be more expensive than wild... Aquacultured is a lot of work, and even maricultured (corals) are more expensive than wild collection. Most of the divers are paid ~ $1/day for all their collection, remember this is the 3rd world we are talking about.

On a side note, aquarium collection doesn't impact the reefs as much as other industries do (like the fresh fish/sushi/red lobster etc). I'm not saying that we shouldn't make aquaculture/mariculture a priority, we should. But consumers will always need to pay more for these than their wild caught counterparts.

not to mention the harvesting of corals for their skeletons! aparently it is popular to use in concrete in those parts of the world.
