Grigor's 75g Soft Coral Dominate Tank Build (1 Viewer)

So flow on the ATS on the slower side or the higher side?

Tank is looking great. Maybe I should just drill the shiny new 40B thats been sitting around for almost 7 months now. why do I visit these sites

Did you try the Nualgi product? I got the free sample .....

It's higher than the 180g show tank. I really want to up the flow on the 180g too but the plumbing combined with the Frag tank splitting the pump it's about at the max. I'm planning to turn off the Frag tank in Fall ( It will become the pond fish winter tank ) and hopefully can add a little more flow to the show tank ATS.

I don't really know what the exact flow is but confident it's higher than the 30/35g per inch recommendation on the 75g tank. The speedwave smallest DC pump is running a 5 out of 6 possible speeds so could increase a little more if wanted but ATS production is dialed in nicely exactly where it is at.

Nualgi product, I'm skeptical of the claims ( long term ) and not really sure how it's supposed to work as they claim. Even if it did, I don't see the need for it. ATS is doing wonderful job on both the 75g and 180g show.

Tank is doing great. Getting pretty full and filling in nicely. As the 1 year mark is approaching, few minor nuisances are starting to set in. Have some bubble algae popping up. A few aptasia setting in as well.

Last month or so been really clearing out the frag tank to repurpose for the pond fish that need to be brought inside soon. So anything that is soft coral related been throwing in the tank. So have been adding some corals here and there.

Reefbreeder LED fixture which is just 2 months old is acting up. The white channel on the left side is flickering several times a day. I think it's a bad connection as usually just barely touch it and they come back on. Reefbreeders thinks its power supply related. Sending me a replacement power supply. See what happens.

Made a Practice what you preach mistake that I will share. Petco was having the 30% sale same day as New Wave Grand opening just 1 week prior to us going on vacation. I went against one of the golden rules and bought some clownfish and couple misc. corals. The clownfish perrished while on vacation. Should have known better than to add anything prior to vacation. I bought a couple of large feather dusters from New Wave grand opening, one of them didn't make it while on vacation pretty. I think I will replace the feather duster though as do go well with the softy tank may even get a cocoworm as well.

Noticing the speedwave dc pump is slowing down. Had to bump it up to the highest setting to compensate. I haven't taken it offline to see if just needs cleaning. I suspect though that it's just getting weaker like reports of other chinese knock off DC pumps seem to do but could't find any hits on this issue on this particular brand/model pump.

Will get an updated FTS up shortly.

I thought my Speedwave was slowing down too. I took it out for a cleaning a few months back and it didn't seem to help. Interesting you are seeing the same thing...

David, I went through two Speedwave pumps in 3 months. They start to come up to speed very slowly and then one day they don't turn on at all. Be sure you have a backup pump around for the day that happens.

Yes, I did notice it takes longer to spin up as well. That stinks. I don't want to buy another chinese brand only to find out it's really the same pump manufacturer and be back at this situation next year.

Just a couple weeks away from 1 year Anniversary of getting wet. I'll try to get some nicer pics for the Anniversary.

Tank has been doing awesome. Some bubble algae here and there, some aptasia starting to pop up that need zapped. Other than that doing great.

Orange Ricordia on the sandbed in bottom left from John( Patent ) are new there is 24 of them that I counted. I placed a few in the frag tank as backups. Mushrooms are pretty hit and miss in this tank so being a bit cautious.

The ORA Vargas Cespitularia ( xenia like stuff on bottom right hand side ) picked up from Jason(Minnetonka Petco ) during the 30% off livestock. I had some from SWE but it melted within 48 hours but tank was still pretty new and lots of things had troubles.

The clowns are from SWE, sustained aquatics clowns. Doing very well they sleep in the Large Colt at night and surprisingly the green chromis doesn't kick them out of it.

Anything else that may look new is just from re-arranging or moved from frag tank when I took it down.

I still maintain the Soft only. There are no hard corals of anykind no matter how tempting it has been at times.

WOW!!! I'm going to have to look a bit closer at your ATS next time. Seems to be working great! Tank looks very clean and happy

 Tank looks great!
Stick your guns on keeping it a softie!

This thread makes me want to setup an all-softie tank! :) The sway would be great to watch. Looks amazing, David!

Quick Update.

Tank is doing well. Did have a cyano outbreak. Tried water changes, siphon substrate as often as possible. Tried almost 1 month, finally resorted to Red Slime Remover. I just couldn't let the mushrooms and other stuff on the sandbed get too irritated. It worked well and tank is looking good. Hope parameters in line enough now that it won't come back. Cyano really took it's toll on the orange sponge trees, likely are on the way out. I won't ever try sponges again outside of the photosynthetic purple vase that does okay.

Lots of small aptasia around especially amongst zoanthid patches. Need to get in there and take care of before too out of control.

Not many things left on the wish list. Brian/AsianReef convinced me to add a chili coral, will see if I can keep it alive last time I tried one was about 12 years ago. Had Jason at Petco order in the chili and a yellow devils hand. Been hoping to find one locally for some time and finally resorted to ordering it in. Looks great, the perfect size for the tank. Only been 1 week, it extends well but hasn't shown the polyps yet.

Blue Cloves spawned a few weeks ago, I'm seeing some new patches of them on rocks. Nice thing about a soft tank, just let it go wild and see what happens.

Only 2 items from the frag swap added, Purple/green yumas from Jeremy and a Pipe organ frag from BeefsReef.

Here is the latest full shot, Hard to get a picture with all softys out and extended at least 1 or 2 is closed up at any given time:
