Join me in my efforts to support Walk Now for Autism Speaks!!!!!!!
Both my children have autism and this is one thing we do to help.

Can you imagine hearing the words "your child has autism"? In a split second, life - as you know it - has changed. For a different family every 15 minutes, tomorrow will never be the same.

By participating in this event, you are helping to change the future for all who struggle with autism. By walking, you are getting us one step closer to finding what causes autism, how to prevent and treat it, and ultimately a cure so no family ever hears those words again. Until then, we walk to find answers and raise awareness about the devastating toll that autism has had on families like ours.

I need you to help make tomorrow be about dance lessons, school lunches and first words rather than therapy, doctor appointments and despair. Together, we will find the missing pieces.
Thank you for your help in reaching Discovery Aquatics Goal!!!

Here is the direct link to donate online: http://www.walknowforautismspeaks.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=347288&supid=300784724 There will also be a donation box at the meeting Saturday! Donations are welcome till September 25th 2010.

My little bit of help for your family Clint. Don't despair. I believe that doctors are over eager to lable a child. 25 years ago I was told I was ADHD. I had my family Dr. look at it and she said I would have been labled Autistic by todays standards. I feel that I am slightly introverted. I don't like large crouds they make me very nervous. I can handle small groups or people one on one without a problem. I acted out all the time because I wasn't comfortable with my surroundings. When left alone and allowed to do things the way I felt comfortable I excelled. So much so I ended up graduating high-school at age 15. I owe it all to my Grandfather because he refused to accept what the doctors said. He took me under his wing and allowed me to be myself and that made the world of difference. All the SPECIAL help the doctors and the schools tried to only made things worse. I can say that thanks to him I have a loving family with 2 beautiful girls and a job that offers endless opertunities. Basically I'm just saying let your kids be who they are and love them for it!:beerchug:

thankfully both of my kids are high functioning. and while true they like to pull the autism trigger when they can't come up with an explanation, our kids have seen enough specialists to sink the SS Titanic (with out a hole in it) that have all pretty much came to the same conclusion. They are both in the spectrum.

You have to hang around our kids for a few hours to see it come out. We also don't accept it and treat our kids normally with rules and expectations. They always meet them. Sometimes we just have to adjust our way of getting them to do what we want. They are both great, and perfect in our eyes. I would not trade either one of them for another.

Thanks for your help!

Oh I know! Doctor and Doctors and Doctors. Getting sent away to multiple group homes thinking that would make things better. Never worked! I'm sorry I didn't mean the gank your thread. This just hit close to home. Just question everything the EXPERTS :gay1: say. Love your kids and life seems to have a crazy way of working out.

Oh how I know the group home route. I think you and I where separated at birth (I was adopted....)

For the issues I had as a kid, group homes won't work. And our kids will NOT be going to a home of any sort, no one can care for them like we do.

The trick is to find what causes autism and stop it.
