So my brother found a fish only setup online that he wants to buy, its a 125g for $1000. The thing is I have NO idea if this thing is worth it. I'm busy most of the time hes free so I can't go check it out in person
Its running an unknown skimmer (looks pretty old and small imo) and a mag 7 return pump, has about 100 pounds of rock, and 2 unknown powerheads.

It comes with a Naso tang, 2 Clowns, a clown trigger, foxface, some kind of wrasse and what he says to be a squirrel fish but doesn't look like one ( judging from google images )

The fish would most likely have to be in buckets until we take down the system, move it, and set it back up since he doesnt have a tank to put them in. and well, my 20g won't be able to fit the fish, let alone an 8 inch naso tang >.<

So if you were in my situation, would you give your brother the okay to buy it?

I'll post the pictures that he sent me in a bit.

Sounds a little high IMO. If you can handle waiting you would probably find better deals especially on here.

I would say most likely not; details of the skimmer are very important as well as lighting as if you're not content with the current setup you'll most likely end up spending 500+ easily on replacing those for a tank that size. I would personally wait for something better to come along, or if he's really interested ask and see if he would be willing to part the tank, sump, and plumbing offering him half or less. That's how i would do it though if i was seriously interested in the tank, although i will say everyones expectations is different. I try to go with do a good job with equipment the first time so i don't get frustrated with it later. If you brother is content with it, i don't believe he'll be loosing money w/the setup, however from just the skimmer, size tank, equipment, and image above seems a little high priced from whats typically in the market.

I think i've seen this listing on craigslist. It looks really nice and clean. Evn though the equipment is old and out of date, but the guy has it up and running for 10 years. If you could get it for a 1000, i'll do it. Also, I know that he originally has it listed for 2k.

Personally I would say no. Looks like he's asking $1400. If you wait you Can find a better deal And that skimmer could be 10 years old.

Is the tank located in AV? If so it looks like a nice setup, he has been trying to sell it for months though.

Yep for sure a turboflotor. Decent skimmer for the money about 10 years ago. By today's standards it's pretty subpar and undersized for a 125g.

I personally would not do it. Sounds like some could be pretty good sized fish and trying to tear down the whole setup and put it all back together without loosing livestock is not in your favor. While not impossible, it would be a pretty big undertaking.

Best to buy tank seperately and add fish later.

I would not do it for that reason alone, not even looking at the asking price.
