Jonty's latest Build thread (1 Viewer)

I have wanted to run the deepwater tank @ 72-74 Deg and added a chiller , the issue I had was that constantly circulating 77 F water from the main tank resulted in a constantly running chiller and difficulty maintaining low temps even when I drastically reduced the flow rate from the main system. I found an all Titanium heat exchanger that is used for saltwater swimming pools and installed it yesterday to scavenge the heat away from the incoming water and heat the water returning to the sump. I was a bit skeptical but it really works the chiller now runs 15 Min an hour with the flow rate a 200% the previous rate. I do think this would be a really nice bit of kit for someone bring to heat a tank from their household hot water tank also.

Wouldn't you know it.
We cover up the lighting and now we take pictures and discuss it. lol

I spent all day yesterday with Chad mounting the lights on a new aluminum frame that Lee @ SWE had designed and ordered for me. I am really happy with the outcome.

Beautiful system. You have some amazing livestock. I was wondering where you chose to get your fish. I tend to look for some larger or unusual fish, and they tend to be a little more challenging to come by. Do you source direct, or do you have some trusted vendors that you tend to go to? I look at Divers Den a lot, but would be good to have some options.

thanks for sharing, fun to watch.

Great use of that heat exchanger! I would have never thought of using one in the saltwater application. Are you using your cold house supply to cool the saltwater going to your tank?

Fish come from all over I also have a couple of people I let know what I am looking for and they go out and source.

:brick: Another fish from my Top 10 List!

Great fish, Jon.
Looks like it has a nice fat belly too.
Any reason you didn't get a pair?!!

No pairs available, and its a kind of a spendy little fish ;)

Its probably not, but if it was ever to be a regular fish kn fosters. ..what would they put it under?

What is it?

Pelicier's Perchlet.
Jeremy was "oh-so-close", but he knows how I am with grammar/spelling.
And he knows how much I like these fish.

These fish have come up about half-a-dozen times in the past couple of years in the Diver's Den section.
Kevin will usually condition them in his office tanks as they are a deeper water fish and take a little while to get eating prepared foods.
If it was a standard LiveAquaria listing, I would assume it would fall under the anthias group. The Geometric Pygmy Perchlet (Hawk) is the common fish available in this family; but it's a "poor man's" perchlet compared to the P. pelicieri.
But to answer your question, I assume they would put them under water. Duh!

I like these fish so much that I even made Kevin some cookies resembling the fish, but it wasn't enough to sway him into a trade.

Has anyone seen jontys tank? I think it's all a made up story! All these Amazing fish in one tank....

Did you get the new sump installed yet? I'm planning to come to your meeting.

Nope it should come along with the new tank in the next two weeks.
