Have you ever tried Mexican turbo snails for the hair algae? They worked great on my tank. Not a spec of hair algae to be seen anymore. They just munch down on it like crazy. They have to be Mexican turbos though, make sure you ask specifically.
 
Yup, and i have added some. My problem was that I added some additional rock to fast after first setting up the tank. When I started first seeing the hair algae I pretty much only stepped up the water changes, which wasnt enough. Anyone who has had hair algae knows that once it gets a foot hold you are in trouble and I let it get a good foot hold before I started agressively fighting it.

have you try raising mag up to 15-1600...i have heard many successful stories in RC.

I had fields of HA growing in my tank and wasnt doing anything other than hand picking it off here and there. When I last redid my aqua scaping I pulled every rock out of my tank and scrubbed off any HA I could find.

That was towards the end of last September and so far, it has not really come back....drastic move but it took care of it....
