I'm glad you like your lights, I personally would never use them. To each there own I guess. The apperance or asthetics of the unit are terrible. Everything seems to be made in china, thats not always a good thing IMO. Support your country by paying more for the light realizing that our workers make more money on a annual and per hour basis, and don't have sweat shops that pay people peanuts to make such products. The difference is made up somewhere. Bridglux LEDs are half the price of cree's alone, so I could argue that saves quite a bit upfront. I dont care what it says the bins are terrible compared to the higher quality fixtures. I'm not familiar with guts of the fixture as far as drivers and other components so who knows about those costs. I have no experience with your fixture nor do I plan on ever purchasing one. The Vega's color, control, and overall quality far surpass the alibaba style fixtures......made in the USA anyday

If you're making your judgments without even trying or willing to try the fixtures then you're just using the stereotype that everything from china is cheap trash and everything make in any other Country is higher quality just for the sake of it being not-china made. I don't think that's really giving those fixtures a fair chance. Besides, the competitive prices will help encourage USA Manufacturers to come up with ways to make their fixtures cheaper.

If you are going to bring up sweatshops then I hope you don't own anything else made in China cause it is the same exact thing anyways. Might as well save $400 on a light fixture if you're aiming to save $5 on a T-Shirt (just as an example).

LOL, I wasn't trying to come off as agressive I just wanted to stress that the Chinese made LED lights are not as crappy as your trying to make them out to being. I apologize if it came off that way.

BUT as to supporting my country?! Well, 19+ years in the military and three deployments......I'd say I have put in a huge investment in my Country! Buying a light from a company that over charges for it when I can buy a light that works and looks just as good....... just doesn't seem like I'll loose any sleep over it because it was made in China! I'll pocket that money thank you! I worked for the military (Special Ops mind you) and my pay averaged out to sweat shop pay for the hours I put in every day! I wish you and others had argued that point more to our politicians to get me better pay if you're so concerned with how people are treated and paid for their services, lol! It did pay for my education so I'm grateful for that!

The aesthetics are a personal preference and has nothing to do with the functionality of the light. I actually don't see anything wrong with them and think they look pretty nice for what they do. If you have't had these LED's side by side with a VEGA then how can you give an opinion on the coloration or output of the two lights?

They most likely sourced the parts to build these American made LED's from China so just because they were made in America doesn't necessarily mean they were "Made in the USA" just assembled in the US!

I would stay away from anything that is blue/white only. With that being said there are plenty of good choices out there. Razor, photon, radion, vega color, DIY. etc etc. As it has been said however, for the price and if this is your first go round with LEDs, the Chinese made reefbreeder, or AJM reef lights, etc. are a great option.

So today I stopped by General0's place to checkout the new Reefbreeder LED'S, and I must say I was impressed and liked what I saw, on that note I will be investing in a 32in set for my tank, the led's were not hot between the lights and the water at all, and the power consumption is under what even the manufacturers said it would be, so I am looking forward to not a high utility bill and great looking coral, thanks General0

Glad you liked them! These are the AJM reef lights but are the exact same as the Reefbreeders. They run at a full 120w but you don't have to run them at 100% to get great coloration or growth from your corals. If your ordering them anytime soon make sure to go through AJM for the Group buy discount which he has extended to us for a short while longer!

You will note though that Reef Breeders offers a 2 yr warranty vs. AJM with just 1 year. The units are also priced accordingly, so RB is slightly higher.

That being said, I picked up an IT2040 today for the group buy price and that's hard to beat no matter which way you cut it. Looking forward to getting my light!

It's under powered because the LEDs are not being ran at 3 watts, or probably at 700ma. Trust me these things are cheap for a reason.

Yes, bridgelux only runs a 700ma and could be an issue for deeper tanks. 55g being pretty short it's probably not going to matter. Bummer though your not spending the extra to get the 48". More LEDS and will look more uniform across the tank.

actually the Density for the 32 is pretty much the same as the 48 it's just the 48" version the LED's are spread out more...

16 ( 55 LEDs) = .430 LEDs / sq.in.
24 ( 51 LEDs) = .266 LEDs / sq.in.
32 ( 99 LEDs) = .387 LEDs / sq.in.
48 (102 LEDs) = .271 LEDs / sq.in.

In Nano's defense while he may never have used this particular fixture, I'm pretty sure I recall that he has used bridgelux LEDs. So I'd consider that experience and certainly knows what they are capable of and what the limits are.

I too have never used this fixture but have used Bridgelux. I like them just fine but takes more of them which I like becuase I'd rather have more spread out then less higher intensity and rely on angles to spread.


Sorry, I must have gotten confused with the 24" having fewer LEDs. For 20" Height, I'd prefer more even spread across the tank, intensity probably wouldn't be running at 100% anyway to make use of more density of LEDs.
