LowersMyBP's Latest Tank (1 Viewer)

That's a nice Setosa (I think) colony in the 180 lower middle I think. Huge. I'm very impressed with the softy/Lps tank as well. It has come a long way in a very short time! Looks very nice James-

Well, for at least one day, this is working out...we will have to wait and see if it works out long term.

I removed 8 fish. 4 yellow tangs, the male trigger, two clowns and the banggai cardinal. The yellow tangs were rehomed, the other fish were moved to the 120. I would move the female trigger to the 120 as well, I just can't catch her.

I added back two fish yesterday, a regal angel and an aiptasia eating filefish. I have aiptasia, I hope he grows large. I also like angels.
I have removed all softies and all of the LPS except for a branching cyphastrea, the green hydnophora and the kelly green psammacora. If the filefish or the angel go after those, I can move them to the 120 as well.

The angel is eating, as is the filefish, so like I said, it has worked for at least one day.

I have red slime more than I would like. I am getting frustrated with pellets, I may just give that up and go back to old school. Skimmer and GFO. I have pretty much gone full circle since august of last year. Until august last year, I was running a small fuge, gfo and skimmer. I then switched to small skimmer with an ATS and the fuge stayed in place. I had to add back the GFO because phosphates went nuts. I finally gave that up and went to a larger skimmer with biopellets, GFO and no fuge. They all seem to yield about the same results, I'd just as soon have one less thing to worry about. OH well.

If this works out, I am thinking about other fish. Ideas include: pyramid butterfly, moorish idol, emperor angel.

I didn't scrape the glass tonight, I just took pictures while the angel was still alive...am I optimistic or what?

Is this marking unique? His stripes aren't uniform.

Next step is to remove about 90% of this monti....

From what I hear: My fish are too big for that. I have heard horror stories of oxygen levels going low and fish gasping/dying. Not even close to being willing to risk it. I have been lazy, what I need to do is get a longer, thinner siphon hose. Clamp it in my filter sock and go all around the tank siphoning it out....just busy with kids and life and other projects that are more fun. In the meantime, I get the turkey baster going a couple times per week.

Regal looks beautiful! Where did you end up finding / or ordering it from, if you feel like sharing?

I'm liking the all sps discipline for this tank too. Once the red slime is gone this tank will be even more gorgeous. I know my tank is much smaller so its easier to work in, but when I see algae or something I dont like I take a toothbrush or turkey baster to it before my water change. After 2-3 weeks of scrubbing and water changes the problem finally subsides naturally. It would take a whole night with your arm in the tank to get it all scrubbed and I know certain areas couldnt be reached, but manually removing it will give your filtration and critters a chance to finish off the remaining stuff without being overwhelmed.

Jay at DA had one in that was eating well. I offered and then paid him more than asking price to keep it for an extra week without adding more fish to the system it was in. I don't do well with QT systems, I have absolutely zero luck. It nicked itself up in a few places in his tank, likely diving under the rocks as multiple people came by the tank per day, but no signs of disease showed up and it continued to eat well. I know it was only an extra week on top of the week it had already been there, but I would have surely killed it in a freshly set up QT and I had a hard time asking Jay to hold it longer. I also prepaid a portion of it which I told him he could keep if the fish croaked on him before I picked it up. It all worked out so far. The fish is not shy and it eats PE mysis aggressively.

Your tank is really coming along. Great job.
I'm jealous of your Regal Angelfish, I would love to add a small but but don't have the 'nads to do so.
Since your other fish are thick and healthy, I think you should have no problems keeping your new angel.

Next step is to remove about 90% of this monti....

I've had to remove a few large sections of my monti this summer.
It may seem daunting at first, but the real estate you regain is definitely worth it. Plus the monti just keeps growing regardless.
Good luck.

I blame Marty.

Regal angel still alive and well. Added the emperor today. Can't see me going back to life without angels. Probably give up corals in this tank before that happens.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone snap. He is about the same size as the tail on my blue hippo tang!

Also, removed all the orange monti. I have had to dramatically reduce the amount of ca/alk I dose daily.

I was checking out my emp tonight and I'm just amazed how big he is after only a year. Got him as he just started changing to adult on 8/30/12. Now he's a big old fat boy. Still odd when the fish grunts at the dog and the dog barks at the fish.

Kept them feed well, wide variety. Regal is on my list, I'm still sore after the last debacle it had with one.

Yeah. I could see having nothing but fish and tube anemones. I would be surprised if any fish ate those, but maybe. There are really cool angel and butterfly fish out there, man, corals stand in the way of all of that. I can keep some corals in the 120. Too early to know what will happen, I could be full of it too. Won't know unless the fish start to munch on them what I will do. Oh and I haven't even started to think about some of the more interesting triggers yet!

Not ready for triggers beyond the blue throat pair I already have. Female in the 180G SPS tank, male in the 120G LPS/Softy tank. I haven't tried lately to catch the female. I won't be able to use a trap because the second I put a trap in the tank, the blond naso is in it waiting for food. Then the ginormous blue hippo comes in, as does the large sailfin, followed by the copper band. It is just silly.

Anyway, see how it looks without the monti.

Also, tried to get a shot of the emperor near the hippo's tail, they are about the same size. This emperor angel is the first fish I've added to the tank in a long time that I thought looked 'fake'. I don't know about the rest of you, but before I got into the hobby, when I would see even a clownfish in a tank in a store etc, it would look 'fake' because the colors are so bright. After a while, you get used to things and it doesn't happen as often.

This aiptasia eating filefish better start in on that stuff soon. If it doesn't, I will either look to find a different one, or try to figure out the sex of the one I have and go buy the opposite.

Regal still doing well:

Ya the vibrant blue, black, and white really make it seem like a painting or cartoon. One of reasons why I wanted a blue angel as well. Its the only species of fish that seem to have such vibrant patterns and markings.

The pictures are looking really colorful and sharp. I don't know if you figured out the manual settings of if it looks that good just on auto, but keep it up.

Love the juvi emperor! You are right, looks like a cartoon the white bands contrast nicely against the dark blue body. I don't think you'll have to worry about your corals too much James. I only really have experience with SPS but I've seen a lot of really nice tanks with tons of SPS and some very large angels together.
