LowersMyBP's Latest Tank (1 Viewer)

The regal is doing great! He's even starting to give a few of the other fish the business from time to time. He loves pellets and really goes after PE mysis. Looking good. The emperor seems to be more of a vegetarian. Prefers to pick at the rockwork and grab small pieces of the nori that the tangs bite off and send into the water column. Every once in a while I will see him go after mysis. I am feeding at least a half dozen different types of food. I have heard that often times, juvis will be more vegetarian and change into meat/sponge eaters as they mature. He is very active and looks just great, so I am not too worried.

The battle in my tank lately has been due to the monti removal. I had to reduce my alk/cal dosing by about 40%. Just incredible. Additionally, the flow patterns in the tank have all been adjusted because the monti is no longer such a huge obstruction. In the process, my flashlight colony went up in smoke. Oh well. I have a few frags still, it will grow back.

Saw a majestic angel in a store over the weekend. It looked great but I wasn't ready to add more fish yet till the emperor is more settled. I also thought it was priced a little high, but I was very tempted.

Still targeting halloween or black friday to add more fish. Trying to decide on selections. Might try the Idol still, might do a long nose butterfly, might do the pyramid butterfly. I am still thinking it will likely be the majestic angel and probably a flame angel. Not sure how many I will add, might all depend on whether or not I can get that female trigger out of there to create some space.

Good to hear. Seems it can take months for fish to really settle in. Try and stay away from the Holacanthus genera, they go grow really large and will want the whole take themselves some day. Majestics are neat they mature so fast.

My Emp is a pre-Madonna when it comes to food, really chows down on some things but completely ignores other foods. Won't touch angel diet foods.

Quick update, mostly just so I can keep track of it historically.

I was able to catch the kole tang and move him to the 120. He is doing much better in there without any other tangs.

I also was able to nab the female trigger (that was a rush) and put her in the 120. All I heard the first night was CHOMP CHOMP, CLICK CLICK, CHOMP CHOMP. Wooo. Didn't expect that. Those two went after each other pretty fiercely so I killed the moonlights and let it sit over night. After 2 days, back to normal.

The emperor never ate anything other than algae and picked at the rocks. He would take mysis in his mouth and spit it out. He never settled in and I lost him about a week ago. The kole tang being stressed certainly didn't help. My blue hippo never liked that kole tang... I will wait till halloween or thanksgiving to try another emperor.

Regal angel is doing great. Starting to become a bit pushy, so that is good to see.

Finally, it is time to say goodbye. I called the zoo and I will be donating my 9 inch blue hippo tang and my big sailfin tang. I talked to Pete about a coral trade for his blue hippo, so I will start growing another one for the zoo. I don't think I will replace the sailfin.

That will get me down to 3 tangs (I used to have 10! All of them were rehomed, only one of those was unsuccessful...) and I will stick with these: the blond naso, the hippo from pete and my yellow tang. Then it will finally be time to start working on adding the other fish I have been wanting to try. I still have never owned a wrasse or an anthias....I don't think I will be changing that yet. Butterflies and angels are in my sights.

I caught both the hippo and the sailfin saturday morning at 6am. Bag/Boxed them up and got them to the zoo at 7:15. I literally caught that hippo with my bare hand. The zoo sounded very surprised to get fish that size without 'any lateral line or anything' on them. It was kind of a funny conversation.

Sooooo, we picked up some new fish.

Blame my wife for the fish on the left, I vowed to never own an acanthurus tang again...then she went to the SWE halloween party with me and said, 'oh buy that fish again'. *sigh*. Good news is, they are so hard to get to eat, the problem may resolve itself. It did pick at algae on the clip all last night, however, so it might have a chance. But it will need to eat a lot of algae if it doesn't start in on meaty foods.

Blame me for the one on the right. Picked it up from a person on the forum, it had been in his tank over a year. It started in on his sunny D zoas and his yellow milli. Now, I have some millis in the tank...we will see what happens. This fish started nailing algae on the clip within minutes of me putting him in the tank...which happened after lights out with just moonlights on. I haven't had any fish that eat algae off the clip in the moonlights.....this guy will be an adventure.

Regal Angel still doing well, he's not always front and center, however.

OOOOOOO A Moorish Idol

Looks like he's in good hands. Post more pictures when you get him hand fed. That's always fun to do.

FINAL ADDITIONS!
Sailfin Tang and Emperor Angel.
Also, I was trying to find a way to go fish only for the winter to see if I liked it, but a few things got in the way.
1. I didn't know anyone I could trust that was willing to hang onto corals till March (always a difficult situation...)
2. The wife said I could get rid of all corals except "that one"....and she was pointing to my oregon tort.

Well, since the oregon tort is among the hardest to keep alive, looks like I won't be giving up my SPS tank anytime soon. If I have to keep that one alive, may as well hang onto the rest of them. There are some people rejoicing in the streets.

Oh, and the CONVICT LIVES! Funny thing, it eats pellets. Also funny, if I didn't own the regal angel (who loves pellets) I likely never would have fed the tank pellets and he would have died...as it is, he is one FAT B*ST*RD!

The idol and all of the angels popped a few corals for the first few days they were in the tank, after they got fed for a few days that has all stopped. The Idol is visibly thicker than when I added him. At least I think he is... I have a couple corals that I am working to survive, but for the most part, I still have polyp extension on most of my corals.

So we come to rest with this list, we will run it as long as possible. Then, we will start to thin out the large ones and take them to the zoo again(if they will take them, they have an approval board that decides).

Your tank is one of the nicest I have seen! Those fish are just beautiful and the tank looks very nice and full of SPS. I can't wait to get my system back up and running....

If you use skimmers, self Cleaning heads is the way to go, I'll never go back. Black friday is a great day to pick up a swabbie or some other version of a self cleaning skimmer cup.

I pulled the cup off of both of the old bubble king's last night to clean the self cleaning heads....thick like mud.
