LowersMyBP's Latest Tank (1 Viewer)

Currently in a holding pattern. Adjusting some fish here and there but feel stuck when it comes to rock work and corals. I bleached the rock structure, but it is all now sitting dry.

Funny thing, my wife said to put up another 180 on a different wall, transfer everything into it.....then just switch back and forth every couple of years. I think she has gone crazy....

Currently not motivated to change rock out "in place". Not motivated to have another 180 running in parallel.

Not sure what the future holds.

James, you should jump on that opportunity. The wife actually "mentions" another 180??? Man, I'd jump on that-those opportunities don't come around too often!

I know you have a lot going on there-fish wise already...this may or may not be feasible- and I can't recall exactly how your room is laid out but you could probably plumb the two 180's together and build a pro looking soffit to cover the plumbing...just saying...it would allow you two tanks and less maintenance-

Back to my Ladies Aid.

Tank is doing ok. Red slime turned to green slime turned to green hair algae. Added a couple tangs back, turned pellets back on, getting the turkey baster out more frequently. Blah. Fish upheaval still ongoing. Couldn't get a longnose butterfly to stick, still working on getting a tomini tang to get comfortable, almost there.
Corals are getting crowded. Selling them doesn't work, putting some in certain places in the tank doesn't work out well. Took out a quart worth of coral last night, tossed it in the garbage. Mostly monti, that stuff is worse than GSP. I have red planet in there, looks great, but you can't see it...

Still no movement on removing the sand and/or replacing the rockwork. Pretty much just waiting for the oregon tort to go up in smoke to make the decision for me... I do hope to start a reboot late this summer or early fall if I can stay motivated. It will likely entail running a 5 foot frag tank temporarily while I rework the 180 or upgrade to an 8 foot 240 if I can stomach the thought of it. There are some changes in the plumbing I would like to do now that I know how things work a little better than I did when I set this thing up. Currently on my 3rd sump, but the plumbing has stayed pretty much the same since I set it up...

You can see some evidence of the monti carnage in this photo...

These fish look better in person..

He is pretty big:

Like you said you know where all of the worts are. To me the tank just looks fabulous.

PS next time you decide you want to throw out corals could ya give a guy a call :)

240! 240! 240!

Great pics!
And I completely understand your montipora "problem".

OOOOOO 8 Foot tank! Do it!

And I also will join the list for frags if you are going to throw some clippings away, mine dont even have to be very big ;)

After seeing Jame's tank first hand for anyone that hasn't seen it, it is nothing short of AMAZING! No need to throw coral away James but i understand time is money!

You can throw away those SPS colonies, just let me know when so I can come dumpster diving :biglaugh2:

I run 2 ATI blue+ bulbs from 5am to 3pm. Then I run 3 blue+ and 3 ATI Aquablue Specials from 3pm to 7pm. Then two blue+ bulbs from 7pm to 9pm.

Yeah, never more than 6 bulbs..and 6 bulbs are on only for 4 hours.

As always, looks great James! I thought you were a fish guy- Not a coral guy - couldn't tell that by the pictures.

My vote is 240.

Anytime your ready to do a tear down, transfer/re-aquascape and your looking for help - give me a holler - that kind of stuff is actually my favorite part of this hobby.

Plus, I work cheap : )

Went for it tonight. Plenty of turd brown(purple under the right light) monti met its doom. Very energizing.

16 hours of light..? Wowzer... I see it's working well for you I don't hear of many running that long . what made you do that? Any reason in particular

It would be one thing if it were all bulbs for 16 hours but since majority of the time just 2 blues it shouldn't be an issue.

I like mine to come on a 5am and stop at 9pm. Probably for the same reasons. I want the dawn lights on a good hour before I get ready in the mornings so fish are up to feed and inspect the tank prior to work. Off at 9pm so that I can enjoy the tank some in the evenings.
