.Marshall's Saltwater Experience (75g Display + 37g Frag) (1 Viewer)

Yep my experience bottom up is too high alk or too aggressive carbon dosing or combination of both. Lower to 7dkh and see what happens.

Lights left on usually causes tops to burn so unlikely the cause in this case.

DG already said it, I used to run alk at 9-11dkh with no visible stn; sometimes higher... But drop in a couple drops of vodka or vinegar.. The first thing I'd see is nice polyp extension and the second would be signs of stn. Stopping carbon normally took care of that along with slowing or stopping alk for a couple of days. But when the colonies got large the alk would fall very fast... Something to watch out for

Alk is in the 7.8-8.0 range, I will drop it down slowly and see what happens. No carbon dosing at the moment, I was running some GAC in a filter bag in the sump pretty aggressively when I was trying to get my skimmer to calm down.

I don't use gac, but I don't think that will cause stn unless there's tiny/microscopic particles escaping that are irritating the corals.

Ime gfo causes stn too if run aggressively, I know reef.saltwater ha switched to running the gfo for a 3-4 hours a day or as needed

I don't run GFO either.

One odd thing I have been noticing that has not been happening before is I am seeing dead copepods floating around every so often. Not alot of dead pods just like 1 a day, they are about 1/4" in size, is this normal to see in an established reef? The fish will swim up to it and not eat it.. pretty weird but just wanted to bring it up.

I see the ever so often. It's the molts from mine at least that's what it looks like. My fish will take a look but never eat them too.

Finally updating my thread..

I was in Fort Benning, Georgia for 3 weeks this July, I had my girlfriend take care of the tank and she did very well! All she had to do was empty skimmer cups (she HATED this), change/wash filter socks, feed the fish, clean the glass, and fill up ATO reservoirs.

I was having some problems with my SPS STN'ing on me, I believe to have fixed the issue and there has been little to no STN as of late. I believe it had to do with a combination of things happening in my tank in a very short period of time.

- Accidently left the ATO OFF for over a day; Salinty Swing
- Skimmer impeller broke; No Skimmer for over a week
- RO/DI filters were past due; Not the best WC/ATO water feeding the tank

So I had some nasty Dino's (i believe) for a little more than a month. The Dino's have been eradicated and the sand is squeaky clean again :)

anyway on to some pictures, I want a macro lens so bad...!!!

AGAIN, don't mind the dinoflagellates on the sand, it is gone! All pictures taken 6 July 2013, as I wanted to have some last pictures if I came home from Georgia and the tank was dead..

Try to name the SPS :)

Updated Display FTS - 6 July 2013

And Frag Tank FTS - 6 July 2013 with the new king of the tank, a 2.5" Purple Tang

Tis the end..

Sad news..

Favorite Picture of the setup I will have to get another one before it comes down.

It looks like I will be selling my current home and buying a new home sooner than I thought and I will not be able to move the tanks over to the new house for I will be stationed out of state for more than a year on a moments notice, but I promise I will be back! And more permanent! I caught the reefing fever, and I know it will never go away..

So I will be selling off every reef tank related item I own, livestock will go first (preferably corals) then goes the fish, followed by equipment.

I live in St. Cloud if you do not know, and I can make the drive down to the cities to meet up and sell off some things but I will be going at most once a week.

Look for a for sale thread with TONS of high-end equipment! Beautiful SPS, and healthy fish!

*I have a couple full fledged mini-med SPS colonies if anyone is interested, these will go first..
- PC Rainbow Acro bigger than a baseball, smaller than a softball.
- ORA Joe the coral, softball sized
- GARF Bonsai
- Leng Sy Cap, mounted to rock, Softball sized or bigger

Fish to be up for sale;

-Yellow Tang (Small 3")
-Purple Tang (Small 2.5")
-Tomini Tang (Small/Med 3.5")
-Bonded Pair of Helfrichi Firefish
-Occelaris Clown Female
-Occelaris Clown Black (2" long) Male
-Royal Gramma (Medium)
-Bonded Pair of Black Snowflakes, these two are stunning (from Chad Vossen)
-Tailspot Blenny (2")
-Lubbocks Fairy Wrasse Male

That sucks, put it this way you enjoyed it wile you had it. Hope to see the the new tank as soon soon as you get you're new home.

Marshall this is really sad news!! Your will just have to follow my build thread since it is so close to yours! I hope to have water in my system tomorrow!

I hope the sale and move goes good, it can be VERY stressful. However, your selling in the right market!

Stay in touch!!!

Brian

What!? Are you still planning to have your meeting? It would be a great opportunity for people to see it before its dismantled and purchase or hold most of your livestock.

Noooo, but waiting on the new build! Good luck

I know it's sad, but I hope many in the club can benefit from the sale!

Thank you Brian and I will no doubt!! I've met some great people in this club (you included ;) ) and I will be back, I promise! I want to see some water in that tank man! haha

I just physically can't hold onto it that long, it would get too close to the closing date and I would be killing myself with the stress of selling off the tank and all the livestock while still Selling/Buying a house in the process!

But I will be taking some pictures tonight of everything in case you would like some frags or any equipment!

Bummer to hear!
I was planning to attend your meeting as I visited my mom up in the area.

You have a lot of really nice corals along with a sweet set up.
Hope to see you return in the future.

PHUK.....

The feeling is mutual Lol..

Thank you, I was really looking forward to my meeting as well but I couldn't hold out any longer.

Sorry to hear... Your tank is my favorite on here. Cant wait for you to be back with a new tank.

Thanks man, means a lot.. I will be back with a bigger tank, and a better plan! I've made a lot of mistakes along the way but I learned from everyone of them! Theres no doubt as soon as everythings gone and I'm in the new house i'll get the itch to start planning the next tank but I need to just wait until life calms down a little bit, getting a little crazy around here!

Sounds like a good plan! I cant wait!

Anybody know when my photos will become viewable again? If ever? And no, upgrading to Photobucket plus is not an option of mine..
