That's the really funny part, as much as I hate internal skimmers they are in essence self regulating to a certain degree. When the overflows happens the water level in the sump naturally drops and as a result the skimmer starts shutting itself down well before any concern about running the sump dry.

Part two is the ATO then as you indicated, it's the Grigor approach limiting via both water level and time. Float switches for water level and Apex limits the pump to only run 3x times a day for 5 minute intervals and a 1 minute min run time. Yes, over time the system tends to lean out. Time is measured in 4-6 months for a .01-.03 salinity drop. I check salinity once in a blue moon and etop off with a load of salt water or two. My AWC tends to run a little salty (I never test that batches of salt water I mix up) which I think tends to balance things out.

Got mysis?

I'm trying out http://www.jehmco.com/html/frozen.html. Ordered 10 pounds of mysis and 5 pounds Pacific Krill. Sad huh? Really cheap from this place, overall I think it's just fine. Good size shrimp, not really that 'dirty'. Only down side is it's a pain to work with but I'll figure out something, it's a block when it arrives. I Was able to hack up ~ 1/3 of it with out thawing it out any.

It takes a few flushes to get it all down... 2 week ATS scrapping. That's a pretty big bowl, doesn't make a dent in NO3 - I just don't get it. Pricing sulfur denitrators.

haha I just posted a toilet in my build thread, top that!

Do you rinse your frozen food before feeding?

Looks like your fish are set for about a week.

I think that answer lies in the photos you just posted.

Didn't you try sulfur denitrators before? Or just talk about them?

Do you rinse your frozen food before feeding?

No. When you compare the amount of stuff your putting in the tank (30 grams of food or what not) with the amount of stuff you rinse off (say .1 of a gram of actual product) it doesn't really cut down on anything. The ratios of stuff going in vs. stuff rinses off are crazy offset.

Plus, I'm way too lazy too... I don't even break it up anymore, they are figuring things out on their own now.

Looks like somebody needs a meat saw to make short work of that block. You could use something like a hacksaw with the right blade: http://www.grizzly.com/products/12-Handsaw-For-Meat/H6244
or go all out and get a small bandsaw for meat. It's only money, right?

As for a sulfur denitrator, quit wasting your time and look for something large enough for your tank and bioload. That one you were experimenting with was something like 4"o x 12 or 16" tall, right? You really need to step up to a six inch one. "If I spend a bunch of money it's got to work, right?" If that's the case, go with this one:

Not sure the standard height, but changing it taller should affect the price too much. Uses an ORP probe to dial it in (the right way), not drips, and has a wet tap so you can calibrate your probe without messing up the low oxygen conditions of the reactor.

I talked to Bill yesterday, he's such a nice guy. 6" was recommended size, can go 8" and just run less media if I was concerned about increasing the system size. I'm thinking ozone reactor, sulfur denitrator and then gyre 180 as next upgrades.

That sounds spot on. I'm looking forward to seeing your upgrades, especially to see what you think of the gyre pump. I've been thinking about ditching my closed loop spray bar and going that route myself.

115 pounds wholly f%$#

I was going to guess that your sulfur denitrator is finally ready, but at 115 pounds? I know it can't be the skimmer because your package is being shipped ground and not motor freight.

A very large STD...... :)
