Maxspect Gyre Discussion (1 Viewer)

Awesome, I'm getting a look at 1 on Thursday in a 180 so it should be interesting

Have you got yours and up and running yet? I'm looking at one for my 210G, would love some feedback on it. I assume you got the xf150. Are you running anything else for flow besides return? TIA

has anyone here had quality issues yet? half of the reviews are pretty bad. spent yesterday hunting web for reviews. breaking, not turning on, jamming. seems like you love it or hate it.

I have had my Gyre running for almost 3 weeks now and I love it. I had to use my Hydors for 2 weeks while I waited for Maxspec to get the new mounts installed but it was worth it. Their is absolutely no noise from the Gyre and it moves the water exactly as I want it. The big thing about the Gyre is that you need to tailor your Aquascaping to the Gyre. In order to get good flow clear across and around the rocks you need alot of opening to keep dead spots from forming. I also have been very picky as far as my CUC is concerned. I have about 4 dozen Super Tongan Nassarius Snails, 30 hermits, and 30 Trochus snails and their all way larger than the openings on the Gyre so as to keep any critters from jamming my pump and breaking them. The Gyre comes with spare bushings and a couple other smaller parts as well as 2 spare cages so that if you want a different flow pattern you can easily change them out.

There is always issues with new products, but realitive to how many are sold its very minimal. For example I have sold over 140+ of the XF150 models and out of all those had only 1 power supply that was replaced. (which I replaced for the customer out of another pump to get him taken care of right away)

You also have to keep in mind that reviews on products are not always the best option when researching a product. Alot of the times people always complain about the bad, making it hard to see/hear the good....

Should be available in a couple months. Just talked to my rep a few days ago on that actually.

If that's for realz that's awesome. I've been running a gyre in my tank for the past two months and overall am quite pleased. I think the control kind of stinks and isn't very intuative and quite difficult to read/understand.

If this has Fusion integration that would be awesome. I'd love to have the kind of control I get with my MP10s.

Is there a way to get a new mounting bracket if we still have the old style that rattles?

Yes you can but you have to send it back in so you have to contact their customer service and arrange it you could be without the pump for 2 to 3 weeks

I haven't researched these things all that much yet, but they sure seem cool.

I worry a bit about long term reliability though - I've seen a number of really cool things come on the market and then be really disappointed with them (Sea Swirls come to mind - the ones I got broke down quickly).

I gather these Gyre units have a backup battery system built in? Is this correct? If so, do any of you know how long they will run off of the backup battery in a power failure situation?

Oops, I just re-read that part of the manual (which BRS has online). It says "IF a battery backup accessory is connected..." So, I guess this is not a standard feature, but rather an add-on. A Google search for this backup accessory didn't come up with anything, so maybe either they haven't come out with this accessory yet (?), of maybe they are talking about connecting it to some sort of standard UPS unit?
