OK, well when I moved in w/ my b/f he already had a 75 SW tank and I've spent the last year learning bits of the hobby. The work, the love, the cash, the beauty... Today we bought another 75 (thanks salty65gal) gallon tank and stand to set up in our bedroom. So I'm calling this MY 1st SW tank because it's the first tank I'll have input on from 'birth' on.

The plan is an aggressive tank. I've wanted a Picasso since the 1st time I saw one.

And it begins...

your putting it in your bedroom? I dont think I could do that with all the water noise.

:greenguy::greenguy:

Sweet! Funny - Eric just left here not 5 mintues ago - got my light for my 120 from him.

I so want a Picasso as well. My 70 is a community tank so eventually I am going to have to have 2 tanks just so I can have all the fish I covet!

This is gonna be a fun one to watch!

Those Picassos are beautiful fish. I am excited to watch the progress of this tank

I grew up VERY close to a RxR track - noise isn't an issue. I get nervous when things go silent (may be a side effect of having a kid too LOL).

I LOVE you're new Avatar! LOL

Every time we go to a fish store or I look at pics online I find that all the fish/creatures I want are aggressive or will pick on something in our current SW tank - I'm giddy over the possibilities for the new baby.   :rotflmao:   :greenguy: LOL

what are your thoughts on the overflow, i would look into haveing the tank drilled in the bottom and going reef ready, much quiter and more dependable. you can buy a overflow box for that size tank for a reasonable price. for that size tank i think you can have 1 overflow box and be ok. others may chime in on the same idea or something different.

This particular tank is not drill-able - stickers on the bottom and everything. My thought is to get this tank set up and happy then maybe change the 75 in our living room to a more complex set up (Ok I know nothing of the technical side of filters and heaters and sumps and all that - yet). The 75 in our living room has a hole drilled (apparently) in an awkward spot so I'm hoping it can be drilled again when the time comes in a more accessible place. I've heard "Once you go Sump you never go back" - Becky... But as of yet I'm unsure of the benefits or cost differences besides more esthetically pleasing.

YAY!

We thought we had some crushed coral to clean up for the tank floor - got home and realized a bunch of it is missing (Given away?? Mis-remembered??). So, we were at a stand still til we got some sand. BUT we got a call from Becky tonight she has enough extra sand at her house to trade for a 'stand' we have for her. So her hubby will be bringing my 75 Gallon Baby some sand tomorrow. WOOT!!!:greenguy:

Progress is awesome - if you want to swing this way - I think I have about 10 lbs you can have for free. Its not live but just needs a serious rinse.........its yours if ya want

Awesome! Thanks - IDK how much it takes or how much Becky has but I'll let Josh know - we were just up there last night. Next planned CR trip is Saturday, I'll let you know. Thanks again!

OK, we have sand and clear water - got a new filter today (2 actually) from OD (and Becky)... I keep forgetting to take pics and post them - I'm told an empty tank of water isn't very interesting LOL.

The 1st night we had water in the tank my parents slept in there (visiting for Thanksgiving) - mom said she had to pee all night but I find the sound soothing. LOL

We picked out dry rock and will be picking it up at OD sometime between tomorrow and Tuesday. (YAY) - probably mixing it with some we have in the current 75G.

Once we get all that going it'll be time for good lighting (going to set up temp low budget lights we have on hand)...I want T5's. We have PC's in the living room 75G and I'm sick of being told I can't have a certain coral cause of the lights. I priced some online at at OD... i know there are some lights for sale in the classified threads but I'm a :lots: I have no idea what all those letters numbers and symbols mean - when I look them up I find that I don't know what length I need or anything HELP! I need it all. Holder/set-up/hood...thingy, lights - whole works. We can not afford to buy them right now. We'll be paying for the rock out of this pay week so it'll be AT LEAST 2 weeks - maybe longer.

Any help, ideas, suggestions, advise, donations?!?!?!?! Thanks all!

Nice to hear the progress!!!

As for T5s, if the tank is 48 inches in length, take a look at http://www.catalinaaquarium.com/product_info.php?cPath=71_136&products_id=1630&osCsid=153abd06396d7080c484e4b159f07b32

It's a 4(lamp)x54watts high output and total watts is 216. You can request bulb selection for saltwater (I think it's 2 actinic and 2 10000K).

I've order a black version (minus the splashguard, I had to DIY) of this a few months ago and it's what I'm using on my 90g. No issues with ordering and received on time; though the metal legs are junk, so I used 1x4 pieces of wood to raise it up. (check my build for pics).

This one seems nice, especially with the included splashguard; it's just the way that the legs fit that suck:mad_3: Price ain't bad though.

Good luck!

That price is far lower than I've priced so far - probably because I check OD, b/f checked internet for same brand... Thanks so much!!!

Ummm....what's FIF? I Googled, it's an acronym for a band in the world of Google and it's not in the Acronyms tread... I texted Becky, no response (no shock LOL)

Thanks again!

Frag It Forward. it's a club term. it means the item you are given for free must never be sold. (or it's off spring, aka frags) and most be given to someone else in the club when you are done with it, or have frags of it.

It's a unwritten law around here, and if you break it the bad fishy karma will strike.

It is ok to charge a small fee if you frag a item and mount it on plugs or what ever that you paid for.

lighting wise, if you go with T5, get something with a fan, it'll extend bulb life. It's tempting to go on price (I have found 4 tube lamps new with bulbs for 100 bucks) but you get what you pay for. Since your not in a big hurry save your $ and watch for a good used name brand fixture to come by or go on sale.

Thanks so much Merk!!!

B/f looked up the company and lights posted above and we plan to save up for fancy dancy T5's. I've been cutting corners for enough years to know there are something that just need to be brand name (Ketchup - NOT catsup, Applesauce, Imitrex, Soy Sauce, Shampoo, Perfume, Make-up, Mt Dew, Toilet Paper, Q-Tips, Reed Diffuser Oil...)

I'm very excited for the FIF from Ang!:greenguy: Thanks!! I can follow the rules, I don't want to mess with fishy karma.
