I would like to setup an ATO system for my nano. I have a Tsunami, but I think it may allow for too much variance before switching on/off. What would everyone recommend for ATO on a 12 gallon nano?

Hey Wes, I setup an ATO with a battery powered bubbler for our 7g. It works great. Can even hook it up to power, so no need for batteries.

I can help you set one up if you need to. I need to get those jugs to you anyway. I've got most of the supplies for one.

I just use a five gallon water jug with a IV drip set that I got from a vet. I just dremeled the hole in the jug a little smaller then the plunger on the IV and no leaks. No silicon/sealant needed. Then set the drip rate to something like 1 drip every 8 secs and your ready to go. You'll have to watch the level of the tank and adjust the driprate, but it isn't much work.

I find that after a few weeks, the area where the thumb valve is will go completely flat and cutoff the flowrate. Just move the valve to a different part of the tube and your ready to go for a few more weeks.

When this method "fails", the flowrate is stopped, which is good. Much better then a floatvalve sticking in the on position and flooding a tank.

I use a JBJ ATO. I haven't measure it, but it is pretty sensitive and does a good job maintaining the water level.

The sensors fit on a hanger so you don't have to worry about suction cups.

Same here, I use this on my nano and frag tank which runs kalk also. Does a pretty good job at keeping the water level consistant, and has worked for about 9 months flawlessly. I think It is a good unit for a nano.

I have a JBJ on my other system, which I like well enough. The only problem I see with this nano is that there are more holes in the overflow so that the water level in the back part isn't independent of the display leve. This seems really dumb to me, so likely I will cover this at some point.

Zac, that would be cool if we could do that. I'm at 94 off lexington if you want to figure something out for this weekend, I'd be down. What kinda beer would you like? :beerchug:

Wes,
i have the Tsunami top off that i just bought from Mary, works great on my 20 high nano. i have about a 5 gallon reserve tank.

I forgot to post in here that I wound up makin' the tsunami work just fine. My paristalic pump is loud and annoying, but I'll fix that sooner or later.
