after building this canopy, I am 100% sure that I will never take any carpenter project. Still need to skin this frame.

From the old tank.

Do anyone know how to find out the USB if it from apex(aquabus)or normal USB
After moving little bit messed up with the cables.

Anyone, anyone....???:gay2:

Tested water yesterday before adding fishes.

everything was 0 (Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate), refugium is up and running(CPR HOB)

Live stock added yesterday
1 BLue Hippo
2 Yellow Tang
1 Purple Tang
1 desjardini Sailfin
1 Clown
1 clown(was there in a tank little over a week)
3 skunk cleaner shrimp
1 fire red shrimp
2 diamond goby(Pair, thanks to Jay)

lighting: 2 Radium 250 watts.

everything looks good. no signs of stress and all are eating good.

just an FYI: JAY GOT SOME REALLY NICE ANTHIAS. never seen those in anyone's tank so far or atleast on the forum.

Everything is looking great!!! THe Anthias that Jay has are gorgeous!! They are a good looking group.. If I werent already stocked I would get them in a heart beat.....hmmmmm.....maybe I just should get rid of a couple and add those suckers to my tank!!

Two things concern me about this build.

1. It is in a garage in minnesota. This adds more pieces of equipment that could fail that could spell the demise of the tank. I hope you have some backup protocols in place.

2. The below quote. How are your levels now? Are you continuing to test? Without ever having seen an ammonia/nitrite spike(I assume) and without Nitrates in the water, I'd be hesitant to be certain I have water that is fish ready. Especially for a whole mess of fish like you have added. I know plenty of that bacteria in a bottle is tremendous, so I assume you are ok. I just hope you are continuing to test in case you need to add more.

New tanks always look good. That tank is a fun size.
Good luck, sir.

James Sir:biggrin:, I agree with above two concerns, after checking with builder, my garage is well insulated, and that is the reason am waiting for winter to see how my garage respond otherwise heater is always an option.

I was surprised too when I tested the water after a week and everything was 0. Again I re-tested the water a day before adding the fish and was 0, but after couple days there was little ammonia, and that was expected(thanks to JAY since he warned me and asked to monitor the water closely) and gave me the solution(little water change). I just did water change and since then it's all good.

I have not tested the water since two days but planning to do little water change in day or two.

Last we discussed you were to find out of if the garage floor was insulated or you can do something about it... status check? otherwise I'd be concerned about heating costs even if the walls and roof are insulated

my garage gets hotter than blazes in the summertime here too...i know you have had a chiller in the past so i assume you will use one here too. However if the chiller gets too hot...it will fail. Again good luck. I dont care to hear about tank crashes...

I believe we talked about it and keeping a insulated sheet underneath the sump...definitely I am not going to change the garage floor and make it heated floor.:biglaugh2:
the gaps has been filled and rest 4 pillers in the garage are filled with insulation.

James, I am not an expert but believe in trying new things. I did lot of research before setting up the the tank in garage. I did ask lot of people on this forum and most of them said 50/50. apart from that I read lot of threads regarding setting up the aquarium in the garage on reef central and contacted (thru PM & call) them and asked their opinion(up north and in east coast). Their tanks are running in garage for almost 1 ~ 3 years with out any issues. again I am not comparing my garage with their garage but what I asked them about how they maintain their system in the garage and deal with cold and hot weather.

once again thanks for your concern and definitely will keep an eye on this. as of now all I can say only time will tell.

is your garage insulated?

I'm thinking about setting up a tank outside. Not insulated or ac. Like a koi pond buy with saltwater fish.

is your garage insulated?

I believe so, not certain. (I didn't build the house, but the temperature differentials suggest to me that it is insulated somewhat). Issue is humidity and southern exposure. Sun through the windows, moisture in the air, cooks the place. If no AC, the humidity will linger unless pulling it out some how. Also, unless you box in the door and stuff the gaps, there is plenty of air getting in/out around the doors I would bet.

He said he puts his odds at 50-50....I hope he succeeds, for the animals' sakes. I am sure that the margin for error is dramatically reduced here. The margins are already pretty tight on these tanks. This amount of stress just wouldn't be for me.

The last few weeks should have told him a little bit about how it will be in the heat of summer. (Though I don't know if he's fired up the halides yet...) He will find out about how it will be in winter soon enough.

It is an interesting experiment. I am eager to see how it goes and hopeful for the animals. Won't know for sure till this time next year, assuming he has yet to fire up the halides in the summer.

Curious, Anurag, do you plan to continue to use the garage to park the car(s) in as well?
