New Camera Advice (1 Viewer)

This post is photo related more so than fish related...but hopefully I can get some help.

I've been shopping around with the intent of upgrading my 10 year old 2 MP Canon camera. I want to upgrade to a camera that can have interchangeable lens's and just capture high quality images.

I've looked at Canon's DSLR's and I love the quality of the images, but I dont like the weight and and hundreds of options that the cameras have that I know I will never use.

I have recently looked at Sony's Nex Line of cameras. I was able to borrow a Sony Nex 7 for a couple weeks and just loved it, but the price of $1000+ wasnt all that attractive to me.

I found myself at Target the other day and decided to visit the camera section. I saw they had a Sony Nex F3. Basically the same features of the Nex 7, but the price tag was a lot more in my ballpark at roughly $600.

So, I guess the purpose of this thread is to ask, what do you guys use, do you know anything about the Sony F3? If you do what do you like/dislike.

Any other camera you would recommend looking at for the beginner that like features and flexibility?

If you want interchangable lenses, you generally get hundreds of options, but that doesn't mean you have to use them. Even DSLR's have full automatic green box mode (though I strongly suggest you venture out to other modes).

If you are at a point where you are looking at interchangable lenses, you really should be looking at the full offerings not just the body. Camera bodies get updated far more often than lenses do, so IMHO, lenses are a big factor in deciding which way to go.

That said, I recommend sticking with Canon and Nikon. Sony and others have some good offerings, but they just don't have the full offerings of the big two. After that, go look at them and hold them and see which fit your hands better. I prefer Canon's full size bodies myself and I also happen to think their lens line is better. That's why I have Canon.

Finally, there are a number of mirrorless interchangable lens cameras that are just starting to establish themselves. Those might be worth a look too.

I would like to mirror what Hypertech said above. I will also recommend staying with either Nikon or Canon. The lenses alone are worth it.

My biggest suggestion though? Just don't let yourself get "sold" on Megapixels, shooting modes, etc.

6+ megapixels is probably all you will ever need, so anything beyond that will work fine.

Since I am a "Nikon guy," I would recommend the Nikon 5100. It's all the camera you would ever need. It's got a great sensor, is user friendly, and can be found at a discounted price due to the release of the newer 3200 model.

I would find it with the 18-55 VR lens (and the 55-200 VR if you want a longer lens) and you will be ready for almost everything.

If you decide to go with Canon though, you wouldn't hear anything negative from me though. I just prefer some of the Nikon features over some of the Canon features.

Coincedently I have been researching DSLR's as well.. I looked at the Compact DSLR's available and they look too fragile to me. I have been looking around alot and always keep coming back to the Canon T3i, thoughts?
 
They are not that fragile. We finally wore out an XSi after well over 100k clicks. I believe the rebel series is only designed to last 50k.

Just make sure they fit your hands OK. I much prefer the full size body. Beyond that, I prefer a full size sensor, which is why I have a 5d2.

t3i has the same specs as the t2i, minus the flip scree. Compare beaause t2i might be cheaper.
 
**Will compare** as well as go to best buy to test out the "feel" of both camera styles.
