New fish thoughts? (1 Viewer)

Any tang is fine as long as you plan to sell it once it gets too big for your tank. Just sayin'.
Ha, true. I’ve just never seen a baby Achilles. Clearly they exist, but all the ones I seem to see are already 4x too big :)

With the tank size and current inventory, I would suggest a smaller dwarf angelfish like an African Flameback; I've never had issues with those picking on corals. I've had to rehome a Lemonpeel as it was nipping at zoanthids. A smaller Genicanthus sp. Angelfish would be a good choice for a while but they all tend to grow too large for 36in tank.
Also look into the cardinalfishes. The Flame, Ochrestriped, Yellow and Kauderni are all great choices for a smaller reef.
If you do want another wrasse, I would stay away from the fairy wrasses as they love to swim and 36" is not enough. Same goes for the Eight Lined Flasher Wrasse; they're a bigger flasher wrasse and when they flash, they move!
Otherwise the suggestions of basslets and dartfishes are solid choices.

A small group of Chalk Bass or Banggai cardinals are great. I also really loved my Royal Gramma.

If you have the sand bed for it, an engineer goby could be cool to get that eel shape in the tank. I can't recall the tank size requirements for those though, might need a bigger tank for that one.
I still have that royal gramma I got from you with the swim bladder issue. Its doing fine and I really like them. I have 5 total

Is this a sand sleeper? Been looking at adding something and this seems a good candidate to be ignored by tang aggression.
Sleeps inside rock crevices with mucus out of its mouth as trip wire

Bimac Anthias allegedly get too big? It seemed like I should either do Dispar or Bartlett’s?

Thanks for all the other recommendations. I admit to still be worried about the angelfish. I’d be gutted to go through the full QT process, only for it to eat my sps.

No one really commented on the Starki. Does that mean it’s a horrible idea?

For the chalk bass, Sarah is worried that it looks pretty brown. Is that just the pictures? Or are they really pretty dark/burnt orange?

They are a really nice orange and white with bright blue streaks, nothing brown about them (at least the ones I had/have seen in person)! They're really beautiful. Next time you go to New Wave they have some in the main Red Sea display right there in your face as you walk in the door so you can see some grown ones.

Anthias can be pretty, and some species would meet your size requirements, but most of them require frequent feedings to thrive (or even survive). I've had decent luck with squamipinnis, but still lose them occasionally for no reason.

I always think the flame angelfish is one of the most beautiful fish. And I don't think it will eat your SPS. ... It might eat the polyps and maybe the skin of the SPS but it won't eat the whole thing though!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Good to know. I was going by the LiveAquria photo (or that's what I showed my wife). She was underwhelmed:

But I'll have to check them out IRL.

Honestly I’ve never seen an adult one or any other than a store really. But yeah they do kinda look like cichlids don’t they?

For the chalk bass, I think they are one of those fish that would look bright/fluorescent under blue light but they don't look very extraordinary under white light. But I believe the good thing about them is they get along well with one another in the same tank, as far as I've read. I haven't tried them myself though.

That looks like a bad boy
