new Tank (1 Viewer)

ok here is the plan moving forward. I have set up a 20 long drilled with a float valve. Filled with rodi and has salt mixing as we speak. Gonna do a almost triple the water change I have been doing. A little more then 50%. Then stick to that weekly and see what my level do, If then, seem to raise and level off might drop back to bi weekly water changes but at 50%. If that does not work after a few weeks. Then off to 2 part I go, and I'm also gonna try and pick up a mag test kit. After looking at the test kits on brs. Wishing I would of sprung for some hanna checkers. Those look awesome and way faster. Well I guess that is all for now. Lets hope these larger water changes work. I am convinced that after some time I will have to start 2 part, when these small colonies become larger ones.

borrowed a mag test kit from Pete yesterday. This morning ran the test. 0.0ml. Guessing that means 1500. So now my question. Is it possible for my calcium to be 420, mag 1500, and then the alk at 6. If so what now. I have not done my large water change yet. I picked up an old or2500 to use as a pump from my water closet to my tank, But I need to pick up some new hoses from Hd today or tomorrow. Is that gonna be the ticket. Or should I look into adding alk(sodium ash) on its own. Just to get that level up.

water is mixed. Went to home depot tonight picked up some pvc to make a pipe coming out of or2500 point down to be able to suck out more water and not leave 3 to 4 inches of water in the bottom of the tank that would not get sucked out. Also picked up 20' of clear flexible tubing. Used my blow torch to soften the end and put a barb in. No its all hooked up and working well. Tomorrow will be the start of the larger water changes. Still cant figure out the reason for the alk being low. But gonna keep moving forward.....

Ill try to get some pick up up of the new water changing setup...

To many fuzzy sticks, give them to me so your alk stays at 8-9
.
Nice one Pete.:)

Alkalinity can get used faster than calcium in a system.

K. So I understand that it can used up quicker. But how to raise it back up. Water changes, sodium ash? If water changes won't do it alone, then I dont want to waste my time or the money from the salt doing 20 gallon water changes from now on. Doing them accosaonally I'm ok with.

k so here are some early am pics of the water change and water changing station.

emptying the tank

5gallons of ro. This what I used for mixing salt in

Very small are to work in. LOL

20 long drilled with a flot valve, a maxi jet 900 w/ sureflow mod for mixing and heating. And a ocean runner 2500 to pump water to the tank w/ 20' of hose connected.

Going to get test results tonight. Wanted to let the water mix up through out the day.

Stay tuned. Dum dum dum.....LOL

So the 12 hour test after water change.

Alk dkh 7.7 yea......
calcium 425
mag 1440

Well thats good enough for me. Now in a 2 weeks ill do another 50%er and test again, Ill prob and try to test every other day until then. And see the results.

Glad this worked. I really didn't want to dose. I like kiss. And this cant kiss any more....

Corals were nice and slimy during the change. But they were looking good when I got home. Only thing left to do is take some bartenders keep to the reflectors, I dont think they have ever been cleaned. Other then an occasional wipe down.

WELL TODAY I did a peroxide dip of my zoas. Started with a small cup of water. Added the zoas. Poured in peroxide unroll the zoa started to bubble. Then let it sit for 4 min. Then moved to a container of iodine for another 4 min. They to a container of revive for another 4 min. Now there back in the tank. Closed up now but well see what they do tomorror. Fingers crossed.

day 10 after dipping zoas. Most have returned to normal. But I think I may be loosing the others. They have not opened and seemed to be deflating. Still looking for those few corals and 1 more fish. The fish is going to be a flame angel. Shooting for mid august to get a ora order on the corals. I added a 240 hydor nano back in to get some more surface tension, getting a little film on one side of the tank where the hydor 1400 pushes it to. Other then that corals and fish seem happy. Urchin has tried to thief some things for hiding, But had to put a stop to that.

Went to swe today and picked up a Flame angel...YEA!!!!, and my wife seen a ora birdsnest that she liked so picked that up also. Flame has adjusted well in the 33. Now fish shopping is done. And after having a hard time finding room for the ora coral shopping may be done also.(BOOOOOOO) :)

Now the fun of watching it all grow. Ill post some updated pics later.

I was admiring that flame just a few days ago. Good luck with 'em!
