new Tank (1 Viewer)

1 clown per tank! I still have clowns only because the female is one of the first two fish I ever bought.
Hope the flasher pulls through.

Great thread! I appreciate the thorough write up. I hope the wrasse is able to pull through! Sounds like your clown is quite the bully

Well flasher passed. Very sad. What a cool fish. Well looks like im done stocking the tank for awhile. Unless a clown decides to exit. Cant completly blame the clown. I know my midas is aggresive. But the large female clown is the only one I seen chasing the lttle guy.

On a good note, 2 more bulbs left to change and ill finally have all my new t5s in. Got my mp10s all dialed in. Set for night mode. Feeding mode set. Leds dim on the display. And wave set up for those times I want to play. I keep it on lagoon mode at 50%. Some of my sps are not to happy, fro lights or flow. But the lps are looking swollen. Or plesantly plump. The new rock I placed in the tank to cure for my son I think is actuallty the problem why the sps are not happy. But its lookin good. Not sure how long to keep it in there. I think its been about a week. And it had been acid washed years before then stored. Maybe give it another week. Feel like im rambling on. So guess thats all for now.

Any ideas why my lights are turning on?

I have a ac Jr. Been running for years. Now I've notice a few times my light which are 4 t5 retros and peogramed to be on a specific times. Are turning on randomly. Example. 1 set is suppose to be on from 8am to 2. And the other from11am to 8pm. But the first set iI noticed turned on at 230 pm. For just a short while then off. I looked at programand nothing is happening around 230. Any ideas. All welse seek to be fine.

Still havent fixed the light issue. But does notseem to happen all the time. Very cconfusing. On a good note. Mps are quiet. Have them on reef crest mode about 60 %. And set to slave opposite mode. Then 50% at night. I have lost a few small frags during the lighting replacement, new pumps upgrade and curing some small rock for my sons tank. Colonies look good, was just the tiny frags I have in there. Plans for the tank is to maybe do some more acans on the bottom of the tank and a few select sps peices now that I have some more room after giving some larger softies to my son. If u have any ideas on the light issue I am having please share,

My flame angel found a new favorite pass time. He swims from one end all the way to the other back and forth. Back and forth. And lets his top dim just barely skim the top of the water. Cool to watch. I think my corals have double since adding mps and new bulbs. The softies look so much fuller.

I figured out its not my controller turning my light off. So now im thinking its maybe the part that makes the lights work. Cant remember what there called. How long are hose things suppose to last. Mine are prob 4 years old.

Your tank is filling in very nicely.
I love that size of tank, but they're so hard to find.

Are you thinking it's the ballast?
Those do need to be replaced every so often. They take most of the abuse from the heat that is created in the fixture. So if they get hot, they don't last as long.

Thank you, yes ballast. Lol could not think of this for the life of me. Yea mine get hot. Must be the problem (wearing out). Kind of hit or miss weather they turn off. Well guess its only the one that runs the evening light.
Thanks about the tank filling in. I have really noticed after adding the mps things are looking fuller. If ur looking for this size forest lake pets tends to always have a few. Thats were I picked mine from and see them there all the time.

Lots to update.
Added a few new sps corals last week.
Fixed ballast problem. Seemed to be the bulb. Pushed end caps towards bulb a bit tighter and problem looks to be fixed.
Tryed to head down to swe and spend my birthday there buying myself a new gift as I have for the past 5 years, today but with kids being sick no go. So I ordered my 2 part kit from brs, a hanna alk kit, and a magnesium kit. So excited to start my 2 part dosing. Excited to see how my corals grow.
I check alk today was at 6. When I did my water change sun it was at 7. So...thinking its a good sign to start dosing. Didnt bother checking calcium will do that when I get my stuff from brs. I need to add an updated pic . See if I can do that tonight.

Got my order today. Did my test.
mag1390
calc450
alk5.32
figured out I need 73 ml of soda ash. Divided it into 4 doses. Added just under 20ml tonight. Do another in am and pm tomorrow and again friday am. Then test fri pm. Not sure why the other readings were so good. But either way. Ill post again after my test on fri. Sure hope I dont nuke the tank......

I think you will be fine. Just go slowly. I have found it is better to dose it by dripping. I use 12ml a day of the soda ash but I dilute it to 50ml with RODI. Seems to keep things stable and all I have to do is grab a 50ml tube in the morning and add it to the dripper (I have a whole weeks worth set aside). I do about 1 drip every 4sec. Just my 2 cents

I would luv to do a dripper but don t have any room for the set up. See I have no sump and no room behind tank. So this is my only option. I watched the brs video prob 100 times so I think im doing it right. Lol

I see, do you have any room in the hood at all? I was actually wondering what do you run for filtration? Just live rock and water changes cause the tank is looking great!

No room. Lights would prob melt any plastic. For filter I run just a small hob that I put filter pads and everyother month a carbon pad in. Then rock, weekly top off, bi weekly ruffly 50% water change
