Hi, my name is Susie, from Woodbury area. I have started this hobby about a year ago. Loving it !!
I have a 36 gal. bow tank, about a 100 lb live rock, live sand. At first I started with crushed corral, but was having too many problems so I sifted it and took out most the of the stuff. Sand has been ten times better scene!
I have one 500 power head and one 750 power head. which I have noticed a much better water flow scene I added the higher power head. I have a 180 reef octopus protein skimmer that works awesome!! and a four T5 bulb Wave point lighting unit.
I started out , after the first ammonia process, with a clown fish, she is light yellow and white striped, but then got a darker color once it got older and became female. Also became a bit territorial to the whole tank until i put an anemone in it. they took to each other very quickly. I also have a yellow tang and a sea erchant, and a cleaner shrimp. A sand sifter star fish and a chocolate chip star fish, although after purchasing I found out he might eat corrals and that is what I want to go twords, so I am afraid he might eat them?? he might have to find a new home. I recently have purchased a big brown slug, looking moose head with Shrek ears guy and love him. I am terrible with remembering the names. but when he got angry with me once because I thought he was dead and tryed picking him up, he squirted purple smoke out at me..
I have been starting very slow and learning the process and how to stablise the water. doing water changes and finally after realizing RODI water is the only way to go, not just conditioning tap water,... I know you are all going... noooo you didn't!!.... never again .. I have had a stable clear tank for just about two months now.
I only have one mushroom tree that is doing great and opening up and getting big. it came with the rocks so I was like well, lets see how this goes, it was about a half an inch and now it is about 3 inches!!
I want to eventual have a corral tank. I am pretty sure soft corrals. but I need to learn up on them. what kinds do well and are hardy , for newbys : ) I also know before I start corrals, I should get a blue light to have on before my white lights turn on to help gradually wake them up. I know my tang will love that. she doesn't like being startled with the light on first thing in the morning.
I cannot wait to have feedback and help : ) I am loving my new hobby and learning as I go.
also I just have to let you know that I have dyslexia and am a terrible speller so I apologies for that. and I use spell check and re read my posts, but I still have issues. so with that I am very sorry : )
