I just wanted to stop in and introduce myself. I am new to the site and to Minnesota as well. I recently moved to Minnesota from Kansas and I love it here. There is only one issue I have so far. I live in the Ironton/Crosby area and there are next to no stores in the area that deal with saltwater supplies. I am not new to the hobby, I have had saltwater tanks for the last 10 years now. I did however sell off everything I had when I moved to Minnesota so I am starting all over from scratch. I just purchased a small tank online just to get me started again, but I still have the sand, rock, skimmer, and ro/di unit to get to complete my setup. I was hoping to find some stores in my area that might have what I need but no such luck. I have also checked Craigslist and no luck there either. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Bradd

Welcome to the Club and to MN. Have you checked out bulk reef supply, they carry all kinds of reef related goodies from ro/di systems to protein skimmers, dry rock and sand. They are located in golden valley mn so shipping is lightning fast with an option to do store pickup.

Thank you for the welcome.

I haven't been to the store, but I did just order my tank through them. I was impressed with their website and the prices they had as well. I don't mind ordering supplies online, but every now and then I like to see it first hand before buying it. The area where I live isn't exactly a haven for saltwater supplies.

I am not familiar with the area you live in up north, but next time you come down to the cities come check out some of the sponsors from the site. Most are within the twin cities metro area but I have heard lots of great things about fragtastic reef down in Mankato.

I will do that. I know my fiance' and I are planning a day trip to the St. Cloud area here soon, and if I can talk her into it we might hit the Twin Cities area as well.

Another question for you, or anyone else who might want to answer. I am looking for a good skimmer for the tank I just bought. However, it isn't going to be an easy task. I bought a [h=1]Nano 16 Nuvo Aquarium with LED Lighting - Innovative Marine.[/h]
I bought this from Bulk Reef Supply. The space I will have for a skimmer is going to be limited and some of the reviews I have read for nano skimmers haven't been the best. I am hoping someone here on the site might have used a nano skimmer that they really like and might chime in.

Hey there! Welcome to TCMAS!

First, I'm pretty familiar with the Crosby area! We drive through there on our way to cabin country a couple times a year, at least! Also, I'll give another +1 for BRS, only thing is, they actually don't have a "store" you can go to. They'll let us do in-store pickup, but they're basically online only as of right now.

Can't say that I know of anything else up there, so you'll have to make a trip out of hitting the stores down in the cities. Might as well make it a day trip and hit a meeting as well. Good chance to organize a purchase/trade with someone in the club and meet some of the club members. :)

I have this skimmer on a 33L and it works great. You do need to do the airline mod to it, but that is very easy to do.

I am going to have to find a skimmer that fits the dimensions for my tank. I want to keep it in the back area that you don't see so the actual tank itself isn't cluttered.

I've always liked the tunze 9002 I believe. Or 9008? Someone help out haha but it's a great little skimmer.

Welcome to TCMAS and MN. +1 on making a day/weekend trip to hit up a meeting and some of the sponsor stores.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I just might have the fiance' talked into a day trip today or tomorrow. Our schedules are pretty hectic during the week so this may be the only chance I have for a while.

900* something model haha I was close. Thanks for the help. You are the skimmer go to guy!

Well, the day trip was put on hold for now. It has been a week of ups and downs here for me. Besides trying to get everything ready for my wedding on the 16th of this month I lost two friends this week. Needless to say, there was no "reef shopping" to be done for me. I will eventually get around to getting what I need for my setup. I did also manage to pick up a 55 gallon tank and stand for free. I am trying to decide what to do with it.

A 55 gallon can be a good starter tank but not very ideal. However it is a better option than the smaller tank, more water volume the better. Any questions or something you need feel free to contact me anytime.

I appreciate the advice. My first started tank many years ago was a 55 gallon. I have since had many different tanks of varying sizes all the way down to a custom 2 1/2 gallon anemone tank. I am not too worried about the 16 gallon tank I just bought, I will find a way to incorporate a top off system to it and will be doing weekly water changes as well. If I do ever get down to your neck of the woods I would love to stop in sometime.
