I don't need no classifieds, I can just entertain myself here all night..lol!

Rep points awarded. You are just being argumentative to be argumentative and really don't have an argument any more. Time to move along.

I don't know the guy so if you say he is a stud....then he is...but not for the random #s..

"Where is the shaking my head" smilie?

Hypertech did all the work to get our club non-profit and then some - he has been on the BOD- hosting meetings done so much more

If anything- give him some love until I boot him out of the number 1 spot for total number of posts in the club

there are valid points on both sides but since the votes swayed to the majority favorites. We minorities would just have to suck it and wait till the next business meeting and voice/vote our opinions. I myself haven't done much for the club (no excuses but but I'm anti-social, lol) but I have helped answer questions regarding things I have had experience myself. Classifieds are nice and its a perk if one can snatch it up before someone else does. Members or not replying to an AD you always have to turn on your spidey senses. Atleast that is what I do. I am not a reef guy so classifieds available to members only wouldn't really affect me as much. I will still look at the forums atleast twenty times a day and reply to what i can...
I believe instead of being angry at what is going to take in effect on February 2013... Get involve and do something to change it. I personally will host a meeting once I get my big tank going... Maybe summer/fall and it's not going to involve reefing but breeding/clownfish and anemones... Nothing is impossible if you get involve.

Patent and many others made significant efforts as well.

The things that give you the green boxes by your name. If you hover over the box, you get a little saying based on how many rep points you have. If you lose too many, your box will turn red.

Right now "thou is an unkown quantity at this point" whereas "hypertech is a splendid one to behold."

Oic, so by awarding me a rep point that means you gave me a negative? So it's a bad award? :brick:

There are positive rep points, "I approve" and there are negative rep points, "I disapprove". The number of rep points you receive along with your post count will give you your rep power that you see where the little green box is by your avatar. You can see the actual reputations you have received by clicking the "User CP" link in the blue bar toward the top of the screen.

None taken - I spoke out of turn not knowing what I was speaking of - I totally apologize and it will NOT happen again

I know nothing of tax laws ans presumed it was tax deductible based on us being a non-profit

I am a moron - please keep that in mind when reading my posts

Hope this helps:

A charitable contribution is defined in IRC 170(c)(1) as a contribution or gift to or for the use of a state, a possession of the United States, or any political subdivision of any of the foregoing, or the United States or the District of Columbia, made exclusively for public purposes, and in IRC 170(c)(2) as a contribution or gift to domestic organizations described in IRC 501(c)(3) except those organized and operated for testing for public safety.

Lol this cracked me up.

And thou, you don't use scenarios to make an argument, you use them to show possible situations. No one says "Since in this scenario a guy's parachute fails. That means that you're screwed. Happy parachuting!" :look:

I'm willing to bet, most newbies come to TCMAS for the knowledge and to ask questions on "how can I maintain a saltwater aquarium in my house?" before they come to actually buy saltwater aquarium equipment, or at least that's how it worked for me.

Google; Minnesota, Saltwater, and Aquarium in any order and see what comes up. People just don't go out and buy saltwater aquarium equipment without knowing what they are doing.

My .02

As a current newb, I can tell you that I came to this forum as a freshwater guy, wondering what it took to be a saltwater guy and how much it would cost (the curse of being an accountant). I read all the articles, some good posts, got excited by what kind of livestock and corals I could eventually have. I learned a lot about this hobby just from the classifieds section. But if at that point, someone would have told me I had to pay to see them or attend some meetings before I even had a tank yet, I would have said forget that. At that point I wasn't even vested yet. I actually got all the stuff I needed to start my 30g off the classifieds, and I know some of the members benefited from it. After running my 30g for a while I was hooked and posted in the classifieds section that I was looking for a 180g tank. I was contacted by a BOD who helped me and my tank is on order.

I realize and agree that the members should have all the say and I respect that, but the point of this post is to say that I'm one guy that benefited from having an open classifieds section. I think it’s a little harsh to call me a freeloader just because I wasn't vested in the hobby yet and I was doing my due diligence.

Also, not all us “freeloaders” on the fringe are lazy, too cheap or whatever adjective you like. Between traveling for my job, my kids, my kids’ activities, church, hunting, fishing, soccer, basketball, and my wife’s two jobs I have a lot going on. I’m not saying you should cater to me and I’m not playing my violin, but I am defending saltwater hobbyists like me who are trying to juggle other responsibilities and hobbies. IMO if only 1 out of every 10 people that join the forum for the classifies becomes an active member, that's better than none!

The classifieds aren't the only way to get the things you need. You can go to something called a LFS which specializes in providing you with your desired needs. I live in the same city and there are 3-4 available options depending in how far you're willing to go.

In the real world "scenarios" are part of every day bussiness and life descisions. "Possible Situations"= Scenarios.....the possibility of a parachute not opening will have an impact on ones descision to jump out of a plane!
The scenario at which a kids father wont take him to a meeting or pay for the club will possibly imapact the clubs descision to not close the classifies. Do you get it???

This is like arguing with my 2 year old daughter...even if shes not right shes right...:brick:

Those things called LFS' are few and far between across the entire state of Minnesota. Kind of why I have to drive 90 minutes to SWE everytime I get the itch to look at new fish.

Point is, sure the label is "twin cities" but that doesn't mean the club is only supporting Twin Cities reefers.

Seriously, that's your response. Instead of getting used equipment at half the price, I should go to "something called a LFS" to get brand new equipment before getting my feet wet. Its like some of you forget what its like to be new to this hobby, or don't know what its like to have a limited amount of money to spend on something.

Your response appears to be a bit condescending. That may not be apparent to you given your young age (16) but some of us old folks (50 in March) don't appreciate it. I'm sure it was unintentional, no harm, no foul.

Please read what I am posting and understand I am not picking on you or trying to argue with you in any way, but I am trying to show you a different side of your argument:

Please read your post again but come at it from this angle.

You came, took information, found good deals, asked for the best deal on a new tank, and took more information on setting up that tank.

What did you give back?

Now that is not meant to come out as harsh as it sounds, I am not picking on you. I am trying to illustrate the point that as to how many of the members feel about some of us (me included).

We've used the forums (club) for our needs, but what did we give back?

Yes there are exceptions Thou for example is an exception who is getting caught up in the rule (and drama). From what I have gathered he has put back into the club, with FF donations. But for every Thou how many more just come and take?

I think some folks need to quit looking at the "membership drive" aspect of this decision and understand it's a participation drive. The BOD and the voting members are calling for us to participate in their club if we want to enjoy all of the benefits of being a part of this club, and they have also provided a means to continue as a member if we still chose to not or cannot participate.

It is a club, they have club rules, and a format to change those rules. I think some of you need to understand that this rule is taking affect in February and the choice from there is yours. Do you want to be a member of this club or not?

I hope you choose yes.
