You guys are upset over nothing. Lots of clubs have a small nominal fee to get to the classifieds and the world didn't end. Don't want to pay? Show up.
My exact thoughts. :violin:

This wiki page needs updating, apparently it is no longer available in Minnesota?

Audience is endless.
No, it is no a compromise at all. The classifieds are a mess, confusing, and a pain in the *** for the moderators to moderate. There are twice as many areas in the classifieds than there need to be. Look at every large forum that allows buying and selling, they don't have the classifieds split up the way we do, but they do force you to be a part of the community by having a minimum time of membership, minimum post count or any number of other ways including being a paid member. Forcing people who can not or will not go to meetings to pay in order to view the classifieds is TCMAS' way of getting those people involved in the club. If you pay money to the club you will want to get your money's worth so chances are you will be involved more so than if classifieds were open to everyone. Also, haven't we already gone over the classified issue? The way it is right now is a prefect compromise between both sides of the isle.
Try Craigslist, eBay and what ever else. Buying and selling on the forum is a perk of being a part of TCMAS, we should be glad it is allowed at all.I for one am disgusted that the bod has decided to go back the the antiquated "members only" classified. I was against this approach before I was a member, and I am against it now. I want to be able to sell to members and non members, I also want to be able to buy from non members, that goes for FIF as well. In changing this back to members only, you are cutting down on the amount of people viewing my for sale, FIF, and WTB threads, thus lessening the chance that I will be able to sell, give away, or find livestock and dry goods.
The way I understand it is the expected income from membership payments will pay for the giveaways. You don't see that correlation? As for the giveaways, where are we getting the money for this? There was a thread just recently about how we almost weren't able to pay for the fall frag swap.
I have to disagree, the BOD isn't dumb. They wouldn't come up with any of this without TCMAS in their best interest. As a whole, I don't think most of these ideas were well thought out.
Preaching to the choir. You guys are upset over nothing. Lots of clubs have a small nominal fee to get to the classifieds and the world didn't end. Don't want to pay? Show up.

So basically what this means is, for those of you not fortunate enough to be rich and go to a local lfs and buy the $50 frag, give us the $30 and you can check out our frags at $10. Gotta keep in mind the lower income, kids, beginners, don't have this kind of money or parents just not willing to pay or drive them to meetings or host meetings... Besides meeting great people, I've learned way more from meeting people from the classifieds here than I would have ever learned on my own. Close the classified doors and watch the community get smaller... Just my thoughts.
Maybe the BODs already did something similar before making their decision, but it would be interesting to put a survey in the member's only section asking which people prefer... open or closed classifieds. Not saying it would be binding or even completely accurate, but it would be interesting.
I am not sold on it being members only. What is the reason? No other forum requires you to do anything (besides having a certain # of posts) to be able to access the classifieds. I understand why the other things that were talked about should go in members only, but not classifieds. The classifieds are an area that requires a lot of traffic to be effective. If there are not people bustling through my sales threads then I'm packing up and going elsewhere to sell.
With the addition of workshops, monthly prizes, etc. we are becoming a local R2R (if not better in some ways). I love it.

But in all seriousness, I understand the change of the "doubles" in the classifieds. They were a mess and people were constantly posting in the wrong area.

If the goal of getting people to pay $30 to access the classifieds is to get more participation in the club; won't just a minimum post count accomplish the same goal? The posts just have to have substance, and be helpful. That way, those who are truly only interested in buying and selling will have a hard time contributing, and therefore they won't be encountered nearly as often.
