Anyone else without power?
thankfully, I have a generator that is up and running, and the tanks look fine. I have a battery backup for the eco tech, which doesn't seem to be working...

Bummer. I was amazed I had power and internet this morning.

The last pole in the line is on the corner between me and the neighbors, so we tend to go down in storms.

Something like 40,000 without power.

I just drove around the neighborhood, and it doesn't look that bad...more of a pain than anything, although we seem to lose power more often in this neighborhood than our prior. I think we are also end of the line...

We have power in the Woodbury Maplewood area, and I'm sure my tank downtown still has power.

If people were without power they might not be online to respond as well.

we had power til about 10 minutes ago and i live downtown minneapolis. according to my skimmer overflowing when i got home it looks like it went out last night for a some time as well.

I live by the walker art center

Downtown / north loop looks alright for you

How long do we have here before it's a concern? My temp in house is 74 right now and assume that won't change too much so temp shouldn't be an issue.

This reminds me I really need to get some sort of small generator . I have a 29 biocube. Need to look into that.

Our power has been out since around 2:00 am and it's still out. Thank God for whole home generators......

luckily mines back up but yes i will be looking into some sort of rechargeable back up system. obviously doesnt help when im gone but will give me an option to restore some power in event of failure.

Obviously not as long term of a solution as a generator. But I have a large UPS unit for computers running as a surge protector, and I have my UV return pump connected to one of the battery backup outlets. I've had it run for over 3 hours and still showed about 70% charge left. For reference the pump is a smaller DC speedwave running on the second lowest flow setting.

All around me people lost power but I never did. I guess I lucked out.

Uggggggg! No power for 18 hours now in the Como area of St. Paul. To make matters worse, the power went out 7 hours after I left for Europe. I have two things going in my favor: 1- I had my ecotech mp10 hooked up to the ecotech back-up battery and a battery operated air pump that automatically starts up when power is out. 2- I have an unreal house sitter! i taught her how to care for the tank, but not how to deal with an extended power outage. She notified me immediately of the outage and after 8 hours of just the above reserve methods i walked her through purchasing and setting up a generator that is able to keep my tank going( which is a good thing since they are saying our power may not be back on until Sunday evening due to some extra special damage to the grid in our area). It is intensely stressful not to be there myself, but hopefully everything will work out. Wish my fish luck!

Phew. 34 hours later, power finally restored! The generator I had my house sitter purchase sure saved my tank. I will never be without one again. of course, I have never had a power outage the lasted more than 12 hours in my entire life ( so I thought the initial backups I had in place provided a reasonable amount of safety, as it agitated the tank well for 8 hours prior to starting the generator. Figures that 6 months after starting my first saltwater tank, and 7 hours after leaving the country, my residence would experience a 1.5 day outage. Ha!

Leicester--holy cow! Sounds like you really have an awesome person taking care of your house and tank!

I have a generator and run extension cords all over the house. When we built, they were supposed to install an outlet to plug into, but never did. Now, I'm wondering if I should install a whole house unit, even though it won't be able to run the geothermal system. What a PITA that system is...The power outage isn't that bad, except for the fact that we can't flush our toilets or run water when it happens.

Yeah, my house-sitter is one of my veterinary technicians at my place of work. After how well she handled everything, I should recommend that she goes into the aquarium maintenance business as a hobby. ;)
