i was at my lfs and they recommended a non copper ich treatment. it had no metals in it at all? they say they use it on theres when they get ich. has ne one heard of these and know if they work?

They don't really work. If you have to treat in tank, just keep the water quality up and soak the food in garlic to give the fish the best conditions you can for them to fight it out on their own.

i have omega one small pellets with garlic. and my fish just stoped eating to day and today was the first noticible sign of ich. what should i do. i have a q tank that will be ready in an hr or so 4 him if need b(i just have to top it off)

I've never tried to soak pellet food. What I did was put a cube of frozen food and some water ina little dish. Then I put a couple drops of garlic on that and let it all soak and thaw for a while. Then I drained it and dumped it in.

We ran into the problem a couple weeks ago and it wasn't good, but we got through it. Water changes, garlic in the food, and try to get a UV sterilizer, makes a difference, our ich cleared up within a week after starting the UV. Won't run without one now. If one fish has it, the others more than likely have it.

Ich has a life cycle and just because it falls off the fish it doesn't mean its cured. You have ich in the tank (so do I) and it will always be there unless you pull all the fish, treat them, and leave the display fallow for 6-8 weeks. It just doesn't clear up in a week.

The ich will likely come back anytime your fish get stressed. There is reall yonly one way to truly cure ich in a reef and no product or method other than above can do it.

I agree, I should have been more specific, it cleared up the outbreak. Until we get our new bigger tank, we can't do the fallow. So for us, we just need to treat the symptoms, keep the fish less stressed and quarantine before adding more.

well they died. i dont get it everyone says how they have a week or something. i soaked brine shrimp in garlic and every one else went crazy but he payed it no mind. i watch my fish eat every day and look for spots. they had none until when i posted this thread. ne time my guys get ich. they stop eating and die. i dont know what i do wrong i have tried alot of things ppl have sayed. fresh dipps(kills the fish within 12 hrs) treated with copper ( killed the fish in 48 hrs). i dont know and another one that had no visible signs of ne thing was dead when i got home today. its very frustrating. what is and how much are uv steralizers? and what dose the term fallow mean. dose it just mean empty? the longest one of my fishes with ich has lived is about two and a half days after visible signs were noticed

if fish are getting picked on it stresses them out so if you are talking about your damsel tank than that could be a cause

no this one only had two semi aggressive damsels at least the chart said so. we had a big bicolord angel and a royal gramma and they were both twice the size of the damsels. so i dunno. damsels seam to b the only thing i can keep alive.; besides cromies... im going to move all my damsels in my 55 when i get all the equip i need to do the tank i really want. what is and how much is a uv steralizer

there are a LOT of things that kill fish. a FW dip in my experience has never killed a fish, and I've done a lot of dips. I don't even pH adjust anymore. I know I have hard tap water, so I use a little conditioner and get the temp about right and pop 'um in there for about 10 min. The big killer of fish will be stress. When stressed they can't fight off crypt(ich) and they don't eat and they basically just give up. Getting healthy fish, quarintining them so that they're ready for tank life and eating what you feed and are not hosting a lot of dormant crypt(ich) hosts is a good start to avoiding fish death. Keeping your tank in overall excellent overall health and stocking right (least aggressive to most aggressive, with plenty of time for each inhabitant to settle in before adding more) will also help. Just be sure you really understand what is killing your fish before you kill more. It may also be likely that you have a high infestation of crypt parasites in your system and the fish that are in there have built an immunity. Others come in and are immediate hosts to a very large number of parasites.

oh and don't trust the chart. All damsels are right pricks. Even clowns can be meaner than spit. Ask anyone with a maroon...

ya i know that the stress killed them but the dip cause the stress to increase. ppl say that they have like a week my fish usually dont. my fish will be fine nobody picking on neone one day eating and everything lookin great then bam. just gets to me i think im going to tear the 30 down and make it a sump or something

you may think they are fine but it is obvious they are not.

UV sterilizer puts your tank water through a cylinder with a very bright UV light, helps burn off the nasties that can hide in your water. For the size of tank you have, you can usually pick one up at like petsmart, for less than a hundred. We paid $180 for one that runs a 125 from Drs F&S. Made a difference on our tank. Though I'm noticing we have an aggressive yellow tang that may need a new home, she is stressing some of the other fish.
