People having thoughts of leaving tcmas read (1 Viewer)

Just recently read a thread and am sure you all have or will see it. Leaving tcmas because of $30 or just a few hours one night to get to a meeting. Now I understand there are a lot of people here for the good deals, but IMO spending $30 to have access to these "good deals" is FAR cheaper than ordering or getting them through other means. $30 Is a pretty small fee and IMO you'd make up in savings for that $30 pretty darn quick.

Just thought I'd share how I felt in the topic in hopes of possibly helping others make the decision to stay.

As mad as it makes me for an online forum to charge to list classified, I would say based on the fact that tcmas doesnt take any % of anything sold on the classifieds they have to find a way to make money, nothing is free. thankfully for the people wanting to leave there will always be craiglist:jester:. on another note i Love tcmas and cant wait to attend a meeting to get my membership! :bow:
 
That $30 (assuming you can't make a meeting for some silly reason) is STILL less than the charge for SHIPPING ALONE from online retailers.

First, we don't charge to post in the classifieds. We charge, IF YOU DON'T WANT TO COME TO A MEETING, for full access to the forums.

Second, thread is closed...

the charge is not only for forum access, but for the priviledges that accompany being a member

including our free giveaways, our workshops, expo table space, members area forum access, classifieds area forum access, multiple other website features and more.

if all you want to do is post in the classifieds and view for sale threads then that is your choice but TCMAS membership comes with much more.

the money from supporter contributions aid our non profit in providing our supporters and members with all of the above opportunities.

FYI TCMAS at large - I have reopened this thread to allow everyone a place to discuss the merits, downfalls of the new change that has been put in place.

Please keep it CONSTRUCTIVE and CIVIL

Otherwise y'all know what will happen to it

Also - please note, anyone posting FS items in the discussion threads to circumvent the new classifieds restrictions will recieve an infraction. Get too many of those and you will be subject to a time out at the very least.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the prior requirement for membership that you HAD to show for at least one meeting per year? Now there is a second option of buy a membership. More choices should be a good thing......or am I missing something?

This is correct.
Or
you get membership by attending at least once every 12 months
or
you get the "TCMAS Supporter" paid subscription
 
although I'm bummed that I can no longer view the classifieds until I get to a meeting I understand that it was necessary to prevent people with no interest in Tcmas from posting and reaping the benefits of the large member base that is present here. I'm here to 'reap' the benefits of the experience of the members, not to have an easy forum to make a buck off of the classifieds.

side note, I'm thrilled to see an upcoming meeting in Burnsville!!!!

Your not missing anything

Yes that was the prior requirement

We added the member sponsor options to make it easier for members that live too far away, are too busy to attend a meeting or just plain are too shy or for some other reason will not attend a meeting.

Added bonus is the extra funds from paying sponsors is allowing us to feature giveaways, workshops and so much more for the members

I agree - I think it's a good thing

Plenty members that have not previously been members due to the reasons above have already started their sponsorship - and I have heard nothing but appreciation and positive feedback from them for finally having an option to become a member other than attending meetings

Just want to thank everyone for their civil posts -

Please note - I took responsibility for this thread when I opened it - which means when I head to bed - I will be closing it again as I cannot mod while asleep - lol


Keep in mind - once a MOD closes a thread- opening it meant I need to follow/mod etc to the end

I for one paid my 30$ right away, not just to get full access, But to help out the club too. They do so much behind the scenes to keep this forum up and moving forward with things like swaps, speakers and such that does cost money, money that needs to come from somewhere. Now my plans are to attend a meeting or two, yes this is a two hour drive for me but still want to be involved in some. am I going to want my 30$ back, not a chance. I feel that it is the very least I can do to help contribute to the club. So people wanting to leave because of that fee or requirement of a meeting isn't seeing the full benefit of the club and just wanting to use the classifieds.

So you guys did end up changing it from 2 in 6 mnths to 1 in 12 mnths? I remember reading about this somewhere before and didnt fully understand.
