Pickle Ricks new build (1 Viewer)

Thanks for the support everyone. At this point yeah I am asking for a refund. I sent out emails last night asking for quotes from a lot of the custom shops but I may just go with a standard glass 120. Only issue is i already have the overflow system i want so I would have to find someone to drill the tank for me. Maybe New wave can help me out, ill reach out to them.

Sorry to hear about your tank problems man. I agree that SC Aquariums should do a refund, but i'm sure they'll give you the run around.

I'd suggest looking at the regular 120 fatboys. Most cost effective IMO. Use the $ savings to stock with some nice fish and corals. At the end of the day most of the people looking at your tank care about whats inside the tank vs what brand the tank is. Come to think of it, some of the best tanks i've seen have run on fleet farm troughs as sump even

Brand wasnt important to me, It was the dimensions I wanted. Im short with short arms, hence the 20" height. And I like the lagoonal style look so I went for the 30" depth. Id be alright going with petco tanks if they custom made them lol but yes, at this point I will likely try and find a standard fat boy.

And i am sure they will give me the run around, im just waiting for the "well you signed for it so its your problem" part. I am not thrilled about the position I am in.

Fat boy 120 tanks are great, but I like the 80 rimless tanks a little better.

If they give you the run around, then give your credit card company a call..

Steve has always been reasonable to work with. I received a damaged canopy (I signed for it before knowing the damage) and he sent me a new one no questions asked. I realize that’s nothing compared to an entire tank but hopefully he will work with you for a positive outcome.

Problem is I paid via paypal. Well over 6 months ago (which is their standard for disputes) so That will be an interesting conversation if it gets to that point.

He was awesome about sending me the second tank for sure. But asking for the refund may be a bit of a different story. Just have to wait and see! Fingers crossed it goes smoothly

If you really want the 20”H by 30”W dimensions, I’d recommend reaching out to Stephen at AcanLord about ordering a tank through Planet Aquariums.

I ordered a standard fat boy 120gal that was rimless (on top) and had three sides with low iron glass. The back was painted black and I had four holes drilled in the back. I also purchased the overflow that I wanted to use and they had no issues with drilling the holes for me. (I did ship the overflow to them to ensure it was done correctly.)

My tank arrived last week and it looks great! It was shipped on a skid with lumber and plywood creating a “crate”. The tank was prepped with cardboard corners on all of the glass corners and wrapped in plastic. Blocking was installed to keep the tank from moving on the skid. There was about a 4” gap between the tank and the plywood sides so it had a buffer if the crate was damaged.

It’d be worth getting a quote if you’re set on those dimensions; which are awesome.

Sent him an email, thanks for the info!

Any updates, hope they treat you well.
So far, Steve hasnt replied to any of my texts (although he is out on pto, confirmed by their 1800 number receptionist) If i dont have any sort of response or help by wednesday next week I may try and get paypal involved..

I have received quotes back from most of the places i checked in with and Miricales is in the lead for best pricing for features (no quote back from new wave or acan lord but i believe they passed my specs on to their contacts)

Third, I am strongly considering skipping all the custom stuff and just getting a standard 120. Or buying a used tank on here/craigslist. Assuming i get a refund im not sure i want to go through the waiting process of over 2 months again.

Wow,was really wanting a 120 or 150 by SCA,but after all the reports of damage.Did you get a quote from custom?
The odds just seem to high.Keep us posted.

There are plenty of people that have not had the issues i have had and for the most part steve has been great to work with. I wouldnt feel too worried about buying one of their stock tanks.

As for custom i do believe i have received a quote from them. In all honesty however I have decided to lean towards not going custom. Ill either pick up a system used here or buy a basic 120 fatboy. Would it be nice to have those dimensions? absolutely. But i dont need them, and going custom multiplies the time and cost considerably.

Has the mfg. gotten back to you yet, hopefully they make you whole.

It is very easy to spend other's money, but I like the dimensions you tried to get built. Money asside, if your patients can handle it, get the deep dimensions and lower height. Very cool.

I messaged him again yesterday and finally got a reply "I am at a trade show but will take care of you when i get back to the hotel tonight" was the response. Didnt hear from him again after that but its better than nothing. Ill check in in another couple days to get an update if i dont hear anything.

As for what i am going to do next there is a new possibility of a 48x30x24 miricals aquarium I want to check out locally. So not exactly what i want but not a deal breaker. Downside is the height of course and the fact that it is peninsula

Steve is mailing me a check for a refund. I am in contact with a few different manufacturer s and have a line on a couple of good used options locally but not sure what direction I'm going

I have a couple nice frags for you that will be therapeutic when ready.

No one should be subjected to this much reefer turmoil.
