I'm trying to figure out my return part of the plumbing. The adapter for my octopus 2000 pump is 1/2" diameter. So I am drilling the back of my tank and putting in a bulk head. I am wondering if I should be using 1/2" loc line adapters and also how long does my loc line nozzle need to be. The one I picked up has 6 links in it and stretches to the middle of my 50 gallon tank, is this necessary or can I do like 3 link with a flare valve at the end?

Not sure of your plan, but you will need to run pipe or tubing from the pump to the bulkhead. This pipe/tubing can be as big as your pump can handle, you may have to use couplers that increase diameter or decrease diameter or both, depending on what you want to use. Not until you are securely inside/over the tank do you want to move to loc line as it is not water tight. You can use as much or as little loc line as you like.

If you have your return enter the tank below the water level through a bulkhead, you will need to be sure to leave the end of the loc line near the water surface or you will get a tremendous amount of water draining into your sump when/if the pump turns off. Again, I don't know what your plan is here, I am only going off of what I read above.

Normally, if the tank isn't drilled on the bottom so you can put in a stand pipe to the surface and then put loc line into the tank, people will do an over the back return. In either case, there is pvc/tubing near the surface of the water in which you can drill a small anti siphon hole. This would then allow you to put the end of your locline as deep into the tank as you like.

When in doubt, post pictures with your questions. Good luck.
