I'm liking what you've done with your build so far. With the easy access from behind, it was nice to see no front access. It will really have the "living picture frame" look when it's complete. My wife would be jealous of the wine cellar.
 
Thanks for the compliments. I'm not sure if I'm going to like not having access in the front of the tank, but did build the stand so I can walk along the back of the tank.

Will hopefully get the RO/DI going this week, once the rest of the water is out of the tank. Acid washed some rocks last night. Will probably let them dry out, and then aquascape and place in the tank while it is filling up.

In the front shot of the tank, you can see the paint around doesn't match quite perfectly. It looks like the painters put the wrong top on the wrong paint can, so that will need to be redone, as it is more obvious in person.

Fortunately, my wife tolerates the cellar, but I need to start buying less and drinking more. :)

Finished aqua scalping, have water filling in the tank, and will now let the long, slow process of cycling start...

Now, to figure out a skimmer and lights!

It is really damn hard waiting to put fish in the tank!!!!

On a different note, not overly happy with how loud my return runs. Anyone have any suggestions for an efficient, quiet pump that runs at ~1000gph? Also, anyone know where to get sea swirl replacement brackets?
 
Definitely look into a DC pump. Hardly any noise out of mine at 100%. Speedwave is the brand I went with. They have one in the 1300 gph range but it is controllable so you could dial it back if needed. Also has a feed button which is pretty nice.

Thanks for the info! Will have to check out this point. Looks like it can be used externally, whereas some of them cannot.
 
While technically you could use as a externally its really not designed to do so but for sure covers the effecient part of the requirement. Effecient to begin with couple with being able to dial the gph you actually need is a nice feature. I'm not really sure how well dc pumps are going to handle the head pressure from the sea-swirls etc. If you did decided to give it a try, I'd be concerned about the orings since that is the only thing keeping the water out so if you did want to give it a try I'd place it in a "oil pan" so to speak with a water detector and alarm.

I have the Speedwave 5000 on my 210 with 2 SeaSwirls and I run it wide open. I think it's perfect for my setup anyway. I corner mounted my SeaSwirls in the front corners so have a lot more travel then you will. You might not need wide open but that's the beauty of these pumps :)

Do you run yours internal or external?

Good point. I'll have to see if I have enough room in the sump chamber that it can sit in there.


edit: have a suggestion for a good external pump?

Looking to start adding fish, as it has to be cycled by now. Anyone have suggestions? I'd like to add tank-bred only fish if possible, although I would really like some sort of tang and copperband at some point in time.

Have a few acans from the swap and acanlord.com (what a sweet setup he has!). I'll try to post a pic once I get the the fish room all cleaned up.

I've also set up a 40br that I'll need to post pics of as well. :)

Nice! Told you that you would beat me...mine is still bone dry and sitting in the garage lol, BUT, the stand is built
