Got an email that they are having a sale today


"We just wanted to let you know that we’re going to have a quick 24-hour sale [today], Saturday, July 30th on the bare essentials: LEDs and drivers. All drivers will be discounted 15%, and all LEDs will be discounted 10% beginning at 12:01am PST. There will be no coupon code necessary; we’ll adjust the prices on the site to reflect the sale."

Perfect, I have 14 hours and 50 minutes remaining to ask questions... I don't know the first thing about making a DIY LED system. Do they have a "LED's for Dummies" section?

No, but it takes them *literally* 3 minutes to answer your emails.

Yeah I did this kit and had no problems figuring out their instructions, even for the dimming. It was my 1st time soldering too. The key is a good solder gun (~$30). Makes life a lot easier and the solders are stronger.
 
I got the same email also. I don't remember what the prices were last week on the retro kits but are the 48-dimmable and the 36-dimmable retro kits on sale also?
 
I placed an order for more LEDs so I can retro fit my biocube 14.

Looking at their retro kit for the biocube 29. They had 10 whites and 10 blues. So to calculate the number needed for the biocube 14, I compared the amount of water surface area between the bc 29 and bc 14. It turns out that the surface area of the bc 29 is 45% larger so doing the math I came up with 11 LEDs for a bc 14. So I rounded up to 12, 6 whites and 6 blues. Also the bc 14 is 3" shallower in depth compared to the bc 29.

Anyone agree with my logic?

Funny way at arriving on it (not actually funny, quite logical really) but that's the most common number used to retrofit a biocube 14.
