also have read multiple threads that a product called Special Blend should help with dinos as well? I know petco carries this product. anyone used this with any success with nuisance algaes? heard it really helps with bacterial count, and thus reducing ammonia

Now I know it don't look like much but it was much worse.

I've been dosing Special Blend bacteria once a week. WARNING! Even opening the bottle of special blend will piss off your wife/girlfriend! Smells horrible! I've also stopped siphoning sand bed every week. Stopping siphoning my sandbed was the hardest thing for me to start. I've ALWAYS been a big advocate of siphoning sandbeds when they're shallow. My opinion was that I was pulling too much bacteria out of the sand and disturbing portions of the sandbed that were deeper than 2" in some spots, causing this issue. I also added a dozen ceriths and 6 hermits.

It's slowly been receding and I couldn't be happier!

As the algae /bacteria started dying back briopsis took over. Going to start gfo and large water changes back up

Ouch Mike! If memory serves, that is one tough algae to get rid of.

Yep it sure is. Luckily it's just on some corals that I purchased that had exposed skeleton. My goal is to move them closer to the glass. My urchin should find them very quickly.

Then adding back in gfo, with large water changes.

At the speaker event one of the hosts was mentioned hydrogen peroxide as being able to spot treat algae and most corals ( there are a few exceptions so do some research as to which corals its safe to use ).

I used peroxide on some other frags that were showing signs of it (zoas) . It does work great. I may do the brain coral since I can control the dip. I don't want to do my African steels because they're so touchy and it took months for me to get them happy and reproducing. But I may have no choice.
