Reef to Fresh? (1 Viewer)

I think the cat litter you want is the elcheapo unscented %100 natural clay. Normally it's the store brand and is the cheapest of them.

And with bass, when they get to big and start bullying the tank at least you can eat them :)

In reference to the clay litter, I have also heard this. For a planted aquarium you'll want a clay base with a layer of sand over it...then a couple/few inches of gravel. Wet World in Eagan has a good display (or used to anyway), I bought the clay/sand from there but I bet the clay litter is close enough and way cheaper.

anybody see the pic of becky making the fertilizer over at wetworld before the dirty sump disappeared? :gay1:

I used Mikes natural gold fertilizer and iron supplement on my old 55 planted i had setup for years. it never ran out or clumped too bad if you follow the direction.

I did dry ferts $40 a yr for a 125 gal. I got nitrates localy Low's has stump remover product thats safe is in a grey bottle like chalk for a chaulk line. I used play sand also, experimented with potting soil also. Heres a couple links for dry ferts. http://www.bestaquariumregulator.com/ferts.html
http://www.aquariumfertilizer.com/
I have ordered from both places before but prefer aquarium fertilizer because they take credit cards.

You think I can just keep my LS in the tank and add FW?
I could then add a few potted plants.
A little salt should be OK?

You probbally could its going to make your water harder and may have some issues with plants that like softer water. I think I had 3 #50 bags of sand in my tank for less than $15. I would start reading on barrreport. Its been a few yrs now and don't remember everything I used to. The site is like rc of plants, some of it you have to pay a member ship fee but is worth it for the info you can get access to. Tom does some testing and stuff you get access to. I have seen Tom on sw forums also, over on reefcentral I have seen a couple posts of his, he uses the screenname of plantbrain. If you can't find plants down there there is a site out of tea,sd that is pretty good called aquariumplants.com fast shipping and I didn't have to pay overnight charges for them. If you need other links I have alot savedfrom when I did plants ferts, algea, ect. If you go pressurized co2 and have spare needlewheel pumps they work great.
