I have a section in my sump that is a small refugium with live rock, sand and Chaeto. Right now, the chaeto really isn't growing but its still looking good. There is some other types of algae that is growing everywhere in there. Looks pretty nasty. Some looks like hair algae, and some looks like leaf type things (I could take a picture later tonight). There is also some stuff floating on the surface. It seems to be staying out of the DT but the CUC is taking care of whats in there.

Sorry for the bad description, but my question is: should I worry about the extra algae growth in the refugium or should I clean some of it out?

Personally i would simply harvest it and use it as a nutrient export. It is probably stealing some of the growth of your chaeto but otherwise that is what a refugium is for, growing algae there instead of your DT.

And the Chaeto is for nutrient export as well, so I say let the nasty algae grow let it grow let it grow!

I only mentioned that because some people like the chaeto to grow because it looks much nicer than the hair algae/other non-chaeto growth, but you are completely right.
