This was the best saltwater system at the Shedd

Save your money, go to the MN zoo.

I wasn't impressed with their reef habitats. The system next to their frag tank was full of brown coral when I went.

I haven't been there in probably 10 years but they had a really big reef tank from what I remember. Isn't it a large concave corner tank? I have pictures of it somewhere.....

There were a ton of aptasia tanks. a lame excuse for "coral fragging" to save the reef that looks like it was set up 10 years ago and never maintained other than glass scrapping. I did enjoy the garden eels...

Sad to hear. We were there in 2006 and it was awesome. Bright colorful tanks everywhere. Got wonder if the recession took its toll as it has on everything else.

I was there last summer, pretty bad. That was one of the reasons I went to Chicago and was not impressed. Big let down. Waited forever in line and paid something like $25 each.

I haven't seen the reefs at the MN zoo in a long time.

I can scratch the Shedd Aquarium off my list. I want to go see the aquarium in Atlanta, hope it is still good.

i was told there is a marine center in new orleans and it is supposed to be really awesome, though i have never researched it

I also didn't really like Shedd either. It was also crowded, hot and many of the people there were really rude. Standing in front of tanks talking, getting in the way. Bleh.

Atlanta is worth a visit if you are already there; not worth a trip based on that alone. There arn't a lot of viewing spots on the big tank, so get there right when they open.

I could have skipped Scripps in San Diego... I could skip San Diego.
Longbeach was worth it.
Monteray was worth it.
I recall enjoying Vancouver as well, for its local Northern Pacific Displays.

I was at the shedd last weekend and it's worth it if you pay the 8$ general admission price and make a cursory walk through, just don't expect to be amazed. LOTS and LOTS of freshwater and FO salt, i think maybe 3 or 4 coral tanks.

The Baltimore aquarium on the other hand is Completely worth it. They eased up on freshwater and went salt crazy with a HUGE fish only system that is near to 3 stories tall and you walk around the middle with fish swimming all around you. Would go back again.

I went to the Shedd prob 15 years ago and the only thing that I really remember was that the tanks were FILLED with Aptasia. I was super disappointed and remember suggesting to one of the employees that they try using kalk paste to help with the problem (not trying to be a smart-*****) and the guy was a total jerk to me. Haven't even thought of going back since.
