sick/injured clownfish? (1 Viewer)

So one of my new clown shrimp had an attack of ich a few days ago. I thought maybe the anemone now in the tank would help w/ resistance or care some.

I think the trigger was a more aggressive water change than I usually do. Anyhow, within 2 days he was covered and I still don't have my qt set up. I added some garlic extract to the food he likes. The next day... all better. It's been almost a week and no sign of ich on any of the fish.

Nice to have a success!

Unfortunately, anemones don't help cure ich or parasitic diseases on your fish. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think shrimps can contract ich or fish diseases, since they're inverts...?

Garlic is a good additive for fish food, however, not a cure. Garlic or selcon help boost fish immune systems so they can better fight off ich. Not sure how many fish you have in your display tank now, but I would hold up on adding anymore. If a disease was the cause of your first clownfish's death, then that parasite/disease is most likely still in your tank. You need to QT your current fish and treat them in a hospital tank. Let your DT be fishless for about 8 weeks for the parasite to go through its growing stages. It uses fish as a host, so if there are none, then it'll eventually die.

I want to stress... Anemones don't help cure ich. They may help by providing a a safe host for clown fish, which reduces their stress; thus, increasing their ability to fight off ich better. However, ich is and will remain in your tank unless you remove all fish.

Absolutely what Nelson said - I only meant the anemone would reduce stress.

And no, didn't mean to suggest shrimp might have ich.

Apologies for not making my thoughts clearer.

Yea, just take it slow and you'll encounter more success in this hobby. Ich is a b**ch, but not the end of the world.
