ok, i have a euro reef rs180 skimmer, had the 4100 pump, few years ago i put the psk2500 on it. starting to make some rattling sounds but still working,

should i replace the pump with something, or the skimmer completely ?? thinking the sicce 600 or 1000, not sure what else.
recently replaced a asm g3 with a aquamaxx cones co-1 and it is silent and seems to do well.

tank is a 120 with 40b sump.
thoughts or ideas would be great!!

thanks much for the time,
Joel

i always think on the economical side, so replacing the pump would be my choice over buying a new skimmer.

The Sicce PSK2500 was discontinued, Sicce replaced that line with the PSK600 and PSK1000. If you were happy with the results of the 2500, you can go with the Sicce PSK600, it is roughly the equivilent of the 2500. Differences? The 600 runs quieter, vibrates less and pumps a fractional amount more water (660 GPH on the 2500 vs 661 GPH on the 600).

The PSK1000 comes in a bit stronger at 880GPH, you may have to make a bit of adjustments to get this pump dialed in on that skimmer. That skimmer came stock with a GenX 4100 pump (which is a horrible pump from what ive heard) which (optimistically) pushes around 950-1000 GPH when hooked to a skimmer.

Long story short, both of those Sicce pumps are good skimmer pumps, ive had great experience with the 2500, and the 600, havent used the 1000 personally. Your skimmer body can handle the 1000. I dont know what those pumps are going for, give SWE a call and see what they have or jump on BRS website. Compare prices and then ask yourself if the skimmer was performing well with the 2500 or not, if yes, grab the 600. If not upgrade to the 1000.

For what its worth, I ran a PSK600 in my skimmer on my 125.

I would go with the PSK 1000 for that skimmer and tank. What is the body diameter of the skimmer? If its 8" then the PSK 1000 is a good choice, under 8" you will most likely want the 600 pump. I have both in stock and replacement impellers if needed.

thanks guys, and welcoming any more responses as well.

skimmer is 8"

thoughts on the Bubble blaster 3000 or the Reef Octopus dc 3500 vs the psk1000 ??
i would need the VENTURI with the psk, have the 2500 psk now

thanks!!

You may be able to use the venturi with your PSK pump on a new PSK 1000, you would have to check. I might have a venturi I could throw in I thought i had one sitting around here if you need to buy the pump.

You could use the BB 3000 pump or the DC 3500 skimmer pump also either one would work.

Pretty sure thr venturi on the 2500 fits both new sicce pumps.

Bubble blaster pumps pump a bit more, they are decent but more expensive. Youd need an adapter for the BB pump if the skimmer has an inlet for the 2500. The BB pumps are louder than the sicce pumps. If you pop that modded impellar in the sicce pump i think its about as good as any in its size. I think its the red impellar if i remember right.... Like another 30 bucks for it but its worth it, get twice the bubbles.

That will only work on the PSK 2500 pumps, the new PSK 1000 impellers are way better than the original ones so there is no need to upgrade the impellers anymore. The BB pumps have been redesigned and are about the same noise as the Sicce pumps, however much more money but alot better performance..

Yea i was talking about the 2500, since he said "i already have a 2500"... guess i took that as he was implying he may still keep the 2500.

I hated sicce pump. Start up issues all the time. I switched to the bubble blaster 3000 and man am I happy! So much more flow and bubbles. I get twice the skimmate as I used to with the sicce. Well worth the money. I have an older SWC 200
