Stealth pro heater users *Beware* (1 Viewer)

Anything can fail, but I would be more concerned about the controller's temp probe failing, or falling out of the water, etc. before I'd worry about the relay failing.

That may be true, but as long as you have a the second security step, why wouldn't you use it? It gives you time to notice the problem before you have well cooked clam chowder.

Oh I wasn't saying you were wrong. I agree that the heater's thermostat should only be set a few degrees above target. Setting it to max means if the controller temp probe reads incorrectly your heater is going to cook your tank even though it may be working perfectly fine.

HOLY CRAP. The Lightning Maroon's tank has a Stealth Pro heater on it right now. I already have THREE old-style Stealths that failed this fall when temps got cold, and are sitting on my dining table in a box to be mailed back.

I think I'm swapping out the Lightning Maroon's heater for one of the new Ebos (yes, Ehiem Jagers) I have sitting around....at least when glass heaters fail and crack they don't also EXPLODE and blow the back out of the tank.

I emailed that thread to Marineland and asked them point blank for more info...I have several of the new Stealth Pro heaters sitting around in use, and such a failure risk is unacceptable!

Matt

atleast the lightning project would end with a bang. :gay1:

FYI, from the original linked thread, the lot # put there by someone else (shadoj) was 01H31 (see http://www.minnfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23752&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30 ). In re-reading the response I got from Marineland Customer Service via email, it seems that the customer service rep did not give me the ACTUAL lot #, only to say "it will look like..."? I admit, I am now confused?

So..hmm. My guess, is if you really want to be safe, maybe get all the lot numbers on your stealths and call Marineland up? Customer Service number on their website is 1-800-322-1666.

[01G31]
[01H31]
[01I31]
[01J31]

this is all the ones from 1st batch that may explode.

stealth heater batch 01A32

I shot a message to Marineland, here's the response I got regarding Stealth Pro heaters:

Ok I'm a little confused. If the lot code says 01A32 then it is the bad batch or the corrected one. Cause I have one that says that. I also have one that says 01H32.

But marineland said they where able to stop the bad ones before they got out to the public.

Rutroo..

I have 1 in use at the shop. The code does not match and it was made in Italy. I'm still gonna replace it.

I would call Marineland at the customer service number I posted above with both numbers. The CS email I got said the code would "look like" 01A32...but if I take that literally, that doesn't mean that 01A32 is a "bad code", just what a code "looks like".

Woo hoo - thanks to DA - just got home with my new titanium heater on a control with its own temp probe for the 26g!!!

What brand controller. There are some real junk out there as well. The aquamedic temp controller one really stinks for example. I wouldn't trust the Finnex one either.

The only one I really trust is the Ranco or OEM versions of the Ranco.

Manufactured by WON 50 watt - will be hooked up to an ACJR next week

I have a Finnex on my 40g and havent had any issues thus far - its hooked up to an AC3

I have a marineland stealth pro heater also i bought a while ago at petco...hmmmm

I had one for 6 months that didn't blow up, but just stopped working. The heating element broke in the off position luckily.
