So Mr. ANTI-SUMP finally broke down and got 1.......I just like the idea of hiding that huge azz skimmer and equipment.......The problem I'm having is..... Calculation flow rate and return "head height" Does anyone have a good article or website on this?

The best thing - don't worry about it so much. For 99.8% of tanks out there, a return pump in the 500-800gph range will work fine.

How many overflows? If 1, my recommendation is the Eheim 1260. If 2, then the 1262.

If you don't like the price of those pumps, there are many others made by other manufacturers for less - just look for about 500-800gph and it will work fine.

..... I forgot to mention....my tank is NOT drilled....DOES THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE? so im trying to find out how much my overflow can handle....more the better

I only have 1 overflow (eshopps style....... dispite all the ruckus) 1.25" "u" style with 1.25" drain... its 6 x 4 x 10............I understand if the tank was drilled it really wouldnt matter too much...... I guess i might take a shot in the dark and do what you said..... don't worry/think about it too hard JUST DO IT!

Uhhh, what's the overflow rated for. I really don't like those things, but every once in a while people are able to use them without incident. Hopefully it at least has the vent hole int eh top you can hook up to a pump to keep it primed.

Chances are, my advice above is still right, but err on the small side of the pump/rating of teh overflow just to be safe.

I got the overflow box from a member when i picked up the sump.....what's the overflow rated for? I really don't know, thats why im here......

its an older model.... it has no vent for priming.......your supposed to suck on it....... i guess that is my first sign......it sucks.... :beerchug:

Say what?

If there is a little outlet for a pipe to suck on, then you can probably rig something with a maxijet. Use a tube to connect the hole to the venturi on the maxi jet. Under normal operation, the maxi jet just runs. If any air gets in there, it will suck it out.

Does this help?

Not really other than - I wouldn't put that on my tank.

You can use that overflow, but I wouldnt go any more than 600gph. If there is a power outage, the siphon should stop inside the j-tube, but no guarantees. There is another style overflow, I have a used one I could sell, that uses a lift pump to keep the siphon, but those are not fail safe. I have never had problems, but the lift pump is only 6 mos old. The biggest problem is the lift pump failing by getting clogged or just not starting up when power is returned. To keep it from clogging try not to run unfiltered water through the pump.

would i be better off replacing the U tube with a flexible hose/tubing to reduce the chance of bubbles?
replacing the OVERFLOW?
replacing the Tank? w/ a drilled one?
(last time it took 10 hours, and we only moved it 5ft....:gay1:.)
or.... continue running without a sump?......

hmmm...... a wise person once told me... "If it ain't broke! Don't fix it!"

I just don't like it when people see my tank and the first question is...
"What the heck is that big, nasty, looking thing behind your tank?"
:coolmad:

well......taking donations then :beerchug:

I think im gonna test it, and test it, until it fails...... in a sink of course ;)

And a little more reading/learning/opinions...... u can never do too much research.....

TY all who have posted!!! I'm glad I just didn't THROW IT IN!! GO GO GO!

..................PATIENCE GRASSHOPPER! Still taking advise.... thanks again :beerchug:

i drill a hole in the top of the u shaped pipe .stuck a barbed fitting in it and ran a aqulifter on it plugged it it to a timer that turn it on every 4 hours.i know they suck to use but i had no choice .tank blew out and had to get this one set up right away.
