Surprise, Another SPS Tank (1 Viewer)

I have had a couple . My last one was the best; Vossen has it now. I made it out of extra thick acrylic so there was no bowing when full of water made it look so much better.
Here is a video from back in the day when I was out on the western planes of Minneapolis I had in the fish room as an "interesting fish for me" tank, LOL

Forgot the fun part of gulf live rock! This lil gorilla crab must have been TINY when the rock came in as I gave it a good look over and didn’t see him or the pistol shrimp I can hear snapping. The gorilla had molted 3 times already so figured it was time to evict him lol. Pic is post-smashing…

And this CC pink highlighter continues to color up. By fall it will be at dragging size so I can hopefully try to bring down the market price of it. Camera can’t pick it up well and doesn’t look so special with all the pink collar line around it but the color blows away Walt Disney and Orange passion.

@Fishfoo or @reef junkie any experience with Nitrate rising and Phosphate falling?

Not sure what’s going on. Feeding hasn’t changed a bit and only thing I’m dosing is a tiny bit of ammonia (equal to like .5ppm nitrate) and I’m finding on my weekly tests nitrate is hovering around 15-20 and phosphate is .02 as of today. I’m wondering if the Kalk I’m dosing is dosing is precipitating phosphate. I’m a fairly new Kalk user (last 9 months) and dosing about 500ml a day just to help with 2 part consumption.

Boy thats hard to say. Ive had to dose no3 since I started kalk dosing On my old cube tank. I was dosing all at once every 3-4 weeks. Letting go as high as 25 and dropping as low as 10 before dosing again. Po4 was more stable on that tank though. This tank I have to dose both. Kalk is way more stable also now on this tank. Maybe your Ph is higher now with your kalk dose and this is causing faster coral growth or uptake of po4?? Has the formula of the food your feeding changed in any way that there is more protein or more No3 in it?

So I know they have an inverse relationship but am too dumb on the subject to tell you anymore than that.

I also have experienced phosphate dropping constantly (likely due to kalk). I’m dosing po4 on a doser but my nitrate stays fairly stable between 16-20.

I have been hearing more and more about anmonia dosing (or possibly that ammonium might be better?) and am interested in it and the results.

New tank ordered! 59 x 24 x 22 1/2” acrylic peninsula style with an external overflow.

Unfortunately my baby purple tang is starting to get really aggressive with my Kole tang and may require eviction before the new tank is ready :(

Maybe i just need to get a school of Chromis or something to break up the tension.

Same, thumbs up to the tank. Booooo on the mean fishy!

I’m focusing on LPS for now and trying to not buy any SPS until the new tank is well established and you’re not helping.

That is a fair approach! Some people can just toss acros in to start. Some can never keep them and I don’t know what the difference is!

Welp this escalated quickly!

Went to the lumber yard to get some nice 2x4 for the stand frame and they had some blemished cabinet grade 3/4” oak plywood for an absolute song so I got 4 sheets. Instead of a 2x4 frame skinned in plywood we’ll get 2 birds stoned at once and build the whole stand out of plywood.

This will be nice as it will be lighter, stronger, and straighter. Basically I’ll just make 2x4 out of the plywood, use the same rocket engineer design and use trim to cover up the few exposed ends of plywood.

3/4" oak is stronger than 2x4's? That's wild (and awesome) if true
