Anyone here buy a custom or fancy tank lid?

I had a fish jump for the first time in over a year and a half (RIP radiant wrasse). My IM150 came with a lid that is of OK quality, but its ugly. My other lagoon has no lid at all.

I see there are either what looks like window screen lids, or polycarb lids.

Anyone know of a custom lid maker that isnt $400+?

Funny you should post this. I am a big fan of IM tanks, part of what I like is their euro bracing and screen that comes with it. I think they are purdy. :)

I used a Red Sea kit with the brs black netting on my eurobraced 150. It sits on the eurobracing so you cant see it until you are up close. But shout out to Jason Langer for fabricating one for my last 90 cube. I think it was Poly carbonate as it does not warp over time like acrylic. @jlanger ?

I have made two of the window screen types. The first was a red sea kit from BRS with the clear netting. Sold that tank and for my new one I just used window screen frames from home depot and the leftover netting from the Red Sea kit that I had. The Red Sea kit had really nice thick metal on the rails and nice tabs to hold it up. I imagine any of the polycarb lids are going to run you a pretty penny, but they sure look nice!

Have some "fancy" ones, I've had too many fish turn into carpet jerky. Was never pleased with DIY kits....spendy but I believe well worth it.

Current tank, Fiji cube-Toplids Lids

Marineland 60 cube RIP (blown seam), Clearview Pisces Exo

but ya, not less than 400$

I know they're nice, but I need 2 of them. So at nearly $1k for lids, it is really hard to stomach . I hate when my fish die though too so it's quite the conundrum lol

I remember looking into them and found some nice ones for closer to $200 but I can’t recall the brands. Saw them on R2R.

I went with a Clearview Tsunami lid for my sr80. It’s acrylic I believe and fairly heavy.
When I received it, it didn’t fit. I sent it back (on their dime) to be fixed and asked them to add light mount cutouts on the ends.
I got it back and it fit but they forgot the cutouts. So, I sent it back a second time on their dime and am awaiting it for a third time.
So…not sure I’d recommend them but for a 48x24 tank it was something like $225.
At least they are responsive to issues and pay for return shipping.

For the budget aquarist. These panels are poly carbonate and available at hoke depot or menards.arojnd $30 fpr 26"×96"
Can cut with tin snips or heavy shears. Oscillating cutter also works well. Fish will bounce back down and less likely to be injured than glass. The corrugation allows for enough airflow to keep condensation quite low.
