The 280 is finally going to get set up.. (1 Viewer)

Look forward to your updates on these fixtures, for the $$ they seem like a pretty good deal.
yeah the Onyx is over the seahorse tank. I like it so much I have pre ordered four of the controllable ones that they are releasing in about 6 weeks for the 280. same fixture but has three channels you can control with a 0-10v signal

Yeah, I was going to do an all out DYI fixture, but I have to be honest I am getting tired of working on this thing. As cool as it is coming together, a year and half is enough I just want to be done. I am still doing a DYI controller for the Rapid fixtures but that's going to be a piece of cake it's just programming with some stuff I have laying around the shop.

So if anyone has an interest in a giant predrilled aluminum plate that holds over 100 LEDs and has two angles bent in the front lol let me know :)

it look exactly like this drawing except I added another row which can be seen in the drawing below:

and even comes with a housing that looks exactly like this drawing they are really big

So felt like posting a pic of the seahorse tanks progress. It is really looking nice. No seahorses yet, but man are there a lot of pods for when there are. I think late June I may finally break down and add them.

The macro is growing in real nice:

I think so. I have a few in the clown tank now. LPS look real good. SPS not so much but I think I had the SPS too high in the tank and the light on for too long. They were doing better in the QT tank. I moved them down to the sand level but I think the damage is done :(

The 280 still has no lights. Rapid tells me their new fixtures will ship out "maybe" next week so they're about a month behind their original tentative ship date. None of the coral I pre ordered at the swap are SPS. I will wait until I get my Kalk reactor working again. I had a pump die. I will try some low maintenance SPS and see how they do. I do have a small digitata growing and it is doing well. Not seeing much polyp extension on the red planet or millie frag though. Frogspawn, Hammer, Duncan and Chalice all look like they could not be happier and the RBTA looks good too, but he has picked the strangest spot to settle in, on the edge of a rock right next to a PH that you would think would blast him off of that rock

I Pick up these guys from Chad tomorrow so after they get the QT treatment they're moving into their new home. Although I have really been vacillating back and forth on whether these guys even need the QT since Chad has had them long enough and they have been doing well in his system.

Hey, finally made it through your thread....very nice. Sea horse tank looks awesome! The onyx lights should be nice from what I've seen from there email.

I really like the fixed version above the seahorse tank. So i think the controllable ones will look great over the 280 once i build the controller.

And thank you for the compliment regarding the seahorse tank. I was looking at it today and decided I really like the way it came out and had to post some pictures :)

life is grand when you look over and can say, "damn that looks good"....

and it does look amazing.. cant wait till your meeting

Thanks :)

OK so I made a mistake I need to fix next weekend, I talked to some of you about this. those that don't already know here is a pick of my return sump. The water from this sump returns directly to the 280. Do you see the mistake I made?

I wish someone would have noticed, it would have saved me a lot of rework. But next weekend I will fix the issue. Now that we are finally through March (it only took 63 days lol)

you used brown paper for the background, for a reef tank it should be black or blue, Duh, not sure how I missed it.lol
its simple turn one upside down... I thought we discusses this ;)

lol simple if you can get back there. it's full of water right now and the 325 is right up against it. Plus there will be a huge inrush of water if I were to simply "turn it upside down".

So I need to empty the 325 move it over then pump the water out of the return sump and then turn the return upside down. If just were to just flip it now I will flood the sump below since the water volume I would release is about 90 gallons and the lower sump only holds 80 and is 1/3 full. It's a task I have beat myself up over since I realized the mistake.

So this was not a "how do I fix this?" post it was a "learn from my mistake post" :)

yeah we all learnt from it, friends make fun of friends when they mess up  I'm sure we'd have caught it before if it was a blue or black background... no one said anything coz they were focussed on the brown stuff and wondering what is he thinking

Oh btw one more thing if you ever get the chance introduce a valve or more around that 325 so you can isolate that, I find it hard to believe that you missed that one

There is a bypass valve on the 325 so I can bypass it. but 325 gallons of water is kind of hard to move. I missed a few days at the gym :)

Added some clowns to the clown tank :)

The Cleaner Shrimp is open for business

I need a much better camera I think lol but that is next year after my wallet has a chance to revive..

Clowns look great! Your wallet will never recover as equipment spending turns into fish and coral spending :rotflmao:

DSLR doesn't have to be a big priority though, your pictures turned out quite well for a Point and Shoot or Cellphone camera.

So I guess I owe this thread a few updates. This Friday is going to rock! I finally will be adding seahorses to the seahorse tank. I was going to go with 4 H Reidi but Seahorse Source will not have them for a few months. I really like the way Abbie and Dan communicate, so they are my preferred vendor for these animals.

They do have hybrids H Reidi/H Erectus that I am getting instead Here is the photo they sent me. 3 pair so 6 total.

Updated photos of the actual animals I am getting this friday!

So that's clowns in the clown tank, seahorses in the seahorse tank, And I guess the 280 is coming along as well. Sorry but I have a crappy P&S camera so this is what ya get :)

I still have a ton of odds and ends to get through and work is really busy but at least when those of you who can make the August 3rd meeting come over, there will be more than a bunch of dead rock and macro growing.

Not much in the way of fish. The 280 was up for 4 months before the first fish went in and I did not plan to stock any dragonets so soon, but Blessed had a pair he was selling cheap and I felt I had enough pods to keep these guys going. So the 280 has 2 scooter blennies and 1 golden assessor. should have been two but one thought she could squeeze between the glass and the rock I glued to it. She was wrong. I guess I didn't see that one coming.

The coral beauty I was going to add to the clown tank came down with ich in QT so it will need to get well before I can purchase any more fish.

So I guess some of the macro I added to the seahorse tank had some red flatworms. I should have dipped them I guess did not think about those as being a problem. I am not going to use FWE spent too much time building a huge pod population for the seahorses and they'll be here tomorrow.

Going to put a wrasse in there I know wrasses and seahorses are not a good mix and maybe in the future I will need to remove him. But the competition for food should not be an issue there is plenty to around, here are a couple of shots of what I mean by huge pod population.
