The 280 is finally going to get set up.. (1 Viewer)

yup added one to the order I am making water painfully slow and a pressure check showed I was at 28 PSI so not good.

the first RO unit did not have a gauge but when I added the 45g per day one it came with a gauge. I knew something was wrong I am not even making the 75g per day off the first unit.

Document your progress like usual I would like to see how painful/painless adding a booster pump would be! :agree:

for sure and I ordered a pressure gauge to the order so I can see exactly what the before and after pressure will be.

Just to torment you, we upgraded the well pump to a constant pressure/controller based unit.

OK so booster pump arrived today as well as the 150 GPD upgrade to my RO unit.

Very painless. Real pleased with the results and I highly recommend doing this if your pressure is low.

Before (note that my old gauge was reading wrong (or the new one is :) )

After

This is just a shot of the TDS meter before I put the booster on.

Before the DI filter (I have it on the "IN" of the meter):

After the DI filter:

I am still not at 325 gallon in the large reservoir so there is no way I was getting anywhere close to 75GPD out of that unit. But I was also not at the recommended PSI so hopefully now I can make some progress.

Give you an idea of the size of the pump

I need to figure out how to get the vibration down, it actually reverberates through the entire house via the plumbing. a real low rumble but once my wife pointed it out it is annoying. And you can see it is sitting on a vibration pad. So that's not helping.

Thanks for documenting this :beerchug:

I've been thinking about adding this upgrade for a while now just to save on waste water. We pay so much for water where I live many people pay to put a second water meter in to discount the sewer charges for water used outside.

Definitely let us know how the vibration thing works out :)

lol thought I would show you a picture of this dinosaur.

It's a MR-4 My Reefs Creation Beckett style skimmer it is rated for 900 gallons.
I will be using this until I can afford an upgrade. I bought it 8 years ago, and have had it in storage ever since.

yeah I will play with it tomorrow and see what else I can do. I wonder if I suspend it somehow if it will vibrate less?

Is it really the vibration of the pump, or is it the water moving in the pipes? You say you hear it in the plumbing. I can hear when our dishwasher runs, I can hear/feel the water start/stop. I don't know what you can do about that if it is something like that, that has to do with water moving in the pipes in an 'un-smooth' manner, as far as I can tell. Hopefully, it is just the pump vibrating and then reverberating through the wall somehow. If it is the herky jerky movement of water through the pipes, you may have a big puzzle on your hands. I don't know if you have to find every copper line in the house and strap it down tighter or what. Good luck. Low tone noise pollution can be intolerable and drive people insane.

Aside, are we really just waiting on RO to see this sucker filled up? Sheesh, put out a call, we can all show up with 20G of RO water, let's fill this sucker up!
I am looking forward to august 3rd, I am optimistic my family schedule will allow me to attend.

I'm still using a downdraft skimmer here from way back when. Spent a lot of time debating which new fancy skimmer to get... In the end it's just about usability and power usage if relative sizing is equal in my book.

That's a lot of pressure. Rattleing only started with the booster pump? Must be something on the input side I'd guess if so.

yeah never heard it before. I ran Pex to the fish shed. I wonder if I just need to clamp that down better. I will look at it closer tomorrow. But in the laundry room and both bathrooms upstairs you can hear it. It's not real loud, it was just never there before. The pump had a real good rating on Bulk Reef so I am guessing it's something on my end or I would have read about it.

the best skimmer i ever had was a mrc 3... wish i still had it

I have an old MRC-2 with an additional neck piece that would basically make it a 3 (or 4) depending on if you added the additional Beckett I have for it. Not sure what I plan to do with it. needs a serious cleaning but yeah that old MRC-2 pulled crap out like a champ. Just kind of PITA to work with because of all the thumb screws.

the "new" MRC-4 will probably be a lot easier to keep clean since it will be mounted right above the sink. So I won't avoid maintenance as much :) These things can get really dirty (which is a good thing).

Just wanted to say this is looking really really nice! You are definitely making me jealous and sad that my current circumstance dictates that I sit on my 200! Just keep the updates coming so I can live vicariously through your awesome build here!!!

Thank you for the kind words.

I want to give a HUGE Thank YOU!! to Chris over at Ace hardware in Chanhassen. He fixed my vibration problem.

He recommended one of these:

Put it line like this:

And there is no longer any noise in the house pipes.

By this weekend the 280 will be cycling!

Where is that in the line?

If it is after any of the RO DI Stages, watch for copper. if it is before all of them, it isn't any different than having copper pipes.

Where do they recommend putting something like that if your house pipes bang once in a while? Anywhere in the supply line?

Glad to hear you found a solution.
