I have had this torch for awhile. Seems to have grown this sort of fungus or stringing substance. Any ideas what it might be? Is the torch doomed and I should pitch it? Scrap it off? The one next to it just recently died for unrelated reasons. They certainly didnt like it when I changed tanks this summer.

Probably a type of sponge. I have a similar one growing in my tanks. Not terribly fast growing. I would just pick/brush it off.

I did that and it seems to have done the trick. There is still a little on the rock but for what it's worth I think that's all I needed to do.

I have a small patch in my DT and some in one of my frag tanks, and it doesn't seem to spread, and doesn't grow very quickly. I wouldn't stress it. There is a bright orange encrusting sponge common on indo euphyllia that seems to cause issues though.
