Edit :Link about does not work

Looks like a Clove Polyp that I have. Do they close into themselves at night or when you touch them?

looks like just the plain old star polyps to me, but if there is no mat, then I guess that is ruled out

I read that if they close up to a small and smooth ball, they are Clove. Otherwise, it could have been Anthelia. You mentioned encrusting but it appears from the photo that it isn't doing that (like the purple mat on a star polyp).

you can peel it of the rock, without hurting it, so it must be encrusting. anyone what to trade?

I have something similar to your pic in my tank. This stuff can grow very quickly and even encrusted over one of my Montipora colonies.

There is a reference on http://www.wetwebmedia.com/seafans.htm.

Erythropodium caribaeorum, Encrusting Gorgonian. Form encrusting mats that look hairy when polyps are extended, smooth, light colored, like leather when retracted.

Let me look and see if I have a piece that I can isolate. Most of it is on large pieces of live rock. If I can find a small piece, you can have it. My tank has flatworms, so not sure if you want it. Definately quarantine to be safe. I will probably be at the SF meeting.

I dont have a Quarantine. could i soak it in a 5 gal filled with salt water and a pump with flatworm exit in it?
lottie, you still want some of mine?

that would be great, let me know what you want in return

I have never used the stuff (flatworm exit), but I hear it is not 100% effective from some of the posts here. Your call. I will have a look and see if I can find a small piece.

Looks like the only small pieces available are at the bottom of the reef. I will see if I can grow some onto a new rock. I'll let you know when I have it available.

I have some pinkish Anthillia that I got from Mary back in Sept. Now it is a pretty good sized colony. If you would like some I would trade for some of your clove polyps or you can just have some of mine.
