I need a new digital camera as my old one pooped out on me. I want a camera that takes those sweet upclose shots. Isn't it a macro lenses that is used to take super close pics of corals, etc? Any cameras out there meet my criteria?

Personally, I love Canon, so assuming you want Brand new, I would point you towards either the Rebel XTi or the 40D. Then you can get either a 60mm or 100mm macro lens (I personally own the 100mm, and it is great) and you will be set from a camera standpoint. If you see yourself doing a lot of macro work, you should invest in a nice tripod, and for sure a shutter release.

Sorry, don't pay attention to these recomendations...I thought it sid $1000,

Those are great camera's, if you want something slightly less pricey but still good, lots of zoom and still have changeable lenses adapters, the cannon powershots5is is a sweet camera as well. Comes in at closer to 350 instead of 600+ lenses. Also a lot easier to use if your not a big camera guy, if you are then as stated, the 40d and xti will give you almost unlimited potential in photography with more features and customization.

for $100, you will be pretty limited, honestly. you will find a much better camera for $200-250, if you can swing it.
otherwise, the cannon sd750 is good, and as far as point and shoots go, you will probally find most people here like canon.
i dont remember off the top of my head its price, but the sd560 isnt bad either, and is a little more budget minded, but its drawback, like most around $100 is that it uses AA batteries instead of a rechargeable lithium battery.
most people reply, "i will use rechargable AA's"
they last about half the length the li-on's do.
