Just wondering if you can have more than a pair? Anyone have more than a pair, if so, thoughts on how they do etc???

It seems to work:

1. With small younger clowns
2. In really big tanks
3. In big tanks with more than 1 anemone so each pair can stake out their own turf.

In 90% of the attempts I've seen, failure ensues in less than a year unless one of the above conditions is present.

i have 3 clowns in my 75 and i do not have an anemone in it for them. they seem to hang out together and get along just fine.

One pair is about a year old - the second pair is younger and smaller

The 1st pair have never had a nem and are tank raised

The 2nd pair host in a nem that I put in the DT for them

There are 2 more BTA's on the same rock about 2" from the nem the 2nd pair host in.

I will be adding another nem Thursday and will introduce it to the other side of the tank

I introduced the 2nd pair and thier nem to the tank tonight and the 1st pair just kind of checked them out but no aggression from the 1st pair (of course the Flame Angel chased them around, she's mean)

Think this will work???

Otherwise I do have the 1st set up for sale, but if this could work, I would rather keep them

Whenever I have orders where I get lots of clowns in, I put them all in the same holding tank. It seems to work because it is a new tank to them.

Maroons tend to be very evil, even when young. I separate the maroons, when I get more than one in. Percs, tomatoes, and others seem to be fine.

If they are really young it seems to work. I just ordered 10 baby clowns and 5 Anemones. I want to set up a clown only tank. We shall see how it goes.

Based on replies - I will wait and see how the 4 do together. I would love to keep all of then so hopefully there will be no issues

Thanks all

this might be confusing but you could have more success with adding them all at once. if they are all added at once they can all pick there own territory. if they are added individually the ones that have already chosen there territory will all gang up on the newly added fish. also if there is already a pair in the the tank that already has established territory and you add all the pairs you want in at once it will disperse the picking on which might not be as severe.

I had two in my 75 and 2 in my 20. at one point I had a mated pair of black clowns pushing 5 years old with 2 percs no more than 1 year old in a 20L while the percs never got in to a nem (there where 2) no real fights broke out.

All 4 are in my DT now. They had a little fight, but it only lasted a few hours. No one got hurt. I did find one of them (The female) very confused in the overflow today. Man did it suck getting her out.

When you school them the two dominate ones will become the female and male, the others will be it's (no sex)

all clown fish are born male and the dominant one becomes female. i don't think they can change back from being a female ether so if you introduce mated pairs you will have 2 dominant females. the 2 separate females will need 2 separate anemones across the tank so they don't fight over the one.

Well - so far so good. The first pair are still hanging out in their normal spot towards the top of the tank and the 2nd pair are hanging out with thier nem!

Will be adding a nem to the other side of the tank tonight. Will be interesting to see if the tank raised pair host in it.....

I have an established Pair of clarke's that have been together for about 4 years and a Pair of Black Clowns that has been paired up for 3 years now and I have them both in my Frag tank which is 36x24x12 and both pairs pretty much leave each other alone the only spatting I ever see is when I feed them Nori both pairs race to see who can feed there host Nori faster....LOL.

I have a pair for false perculas and a female black clown in a 75G tank. The big female black clown boss the other two every now and then, but other that not much of a fight.
