Alright, so I forgot what I wrote originally here before the thread was lost in the cyber-attack or whatever happened, so i'll try to recap.

Just got a Fluval Edge on friday at DA (Thanks Clint!)

The plan so far is to copy the LED mod seen HERE

The tank I bought was in the pewter color version (that was the only color I could get discounted) So you'll see in the photos that I took that the color will magically change.

Since I'd like to make this thread as informational, detailed, and useful as possible, I'll be listing what I've bought, along with the sources I bought everything from.

The list so far:

- heat sink 7.28"x4" - heatsinkusa.com
-(2) buckpucks 3023-d-e-700p 700 ma (This is a wired buckpuck with potentiometer) -LEDSupply.com
-power supply 24v 1.7a -LEDSupply.com
-4 CREE XRE Neutral white -LEDSupply.com
-4 CREE XRE Royal Blue -LEDSupply.com
-Fluval Edge -Discovery Aquatics
-Rust-Oleum flat black Universal All-Surface spray paint - Home Depot
-(3) 5 lb. Bags dry sand - World of fish (duluth)
- Koralia Nano (buying this from my brother, originally from SWE)
-1 bottle Seachem Stability -World of Fish (duluth)
(Soon to be added)
2-3 pieces of live rock
reef stuff

And now, for some photos.

and, even though i would have rather just waited until the water cleared a little, Here's the obligatory cloudy-water photo.

I agree with clint but I have kids and that thing would be on the ground in about 2hrs.

you have well behaved kids. Mine would have it on the floor in about 10 minutes. :)

and ya, I think perhaps some of the sand could come out of it.

quick note on the Fluval edge's filtration system.
It looks to be physically identical to an aquaclear 20 HOB filter (although as pictured, the filter unit just says EDGE on it)

I was noticing when i was filling the tank and stirring up sand last night that it sucked a few grains up which caused the impeller to stop spinning on numerous occasions. I'm hoping this is something that won't be an issue in the future, but I'll be keeping an eye on it.

LEDs and heat sink (along with everything else I ordered for the build) have been shipped.

Maybe buying rocks tonight once I get my salinity down to where I want it (forgot that I used half tank water when filling it and didn't pre-mix the rest of the water I filled it with, then added too much salt)

This is my first time using dry sand for anything. It has been a pain getting the grains to let go of the bubbles they have been surrounding and holding on the bottom (you can kind of see them in front on the second-to-last picture)

I'm not sure what this sand I bought is, but it doesn't seem like its a natural sand (like the stuff sold as live sand that usually has little bits of shells and darker colored pieces mixed in) This stuff is all a uniform size and color

I had the same trouble with the sand in the filter. I just put a sponge over the intake and never happened again.

finished the heat sink on stilts.

I noticed in the build thread I'm using as a guide for this, the centers of the legs are removed. Not sure if that was an airflow thing or what.... maybe I'll find out when I try to put it on or something...
Edit: nope, fits like a glove
