Been working on this on and off for the past 10 months or so(procrastinator) and finally did a water test just the other day.

-Display setup includes.....
-Ati sunpower 4bulb fixture for lighting.
-Mp 10 as well as a quiet one 2200 return and maybe an additional korillia for flow.
-Tank is an aqeon 40br drilled with a 700gph glass holes overflow(Little bit noisier than I would like).
-Stand is homemade by myself Still have to install doors but not sure which way to go at the moment.
-Most everything will be controlled by an ac jr controller.

Sump/frag tank...
-Tank is a 30 breeder that was previously drilled and cracked, bought it for $20 from Chris Goetz and carefully siliconed a piece of glass over the crack. The dividing glass in the sump helps to reinforce the tank and seperates the skimmer section from the frag tank section.
-Octopus 1000int cone skimmer
-2 (24in) bulb retro fixture with an ati b+ and ab special bulbs
-ebo jager heater
-undecided as to powerheads for the frag section but have a bunch of maxi jets to work with...
-Blue glow frag rack system that I won on R2R a while back. Very well made rack.
-I plan on using a brs gfo reactor but still thinking about where I want to put it.
-Will be dosing kalk and also 2 part by way of brs dosing pumps.

I started with mp10 and another powerhead, additional powerhead i found to be kind of pointless, mp10 should be plenty, Imo. have you had any issues with the skimmer being at that depth? i'm running the octo 1000 sss and i really have to keep it at the 5 inches (estimate) that they call for.

No we are not!! Doug it is about time buddy, been wanting this build to get started!! You have some cool ideas for, my favorite is the frag setup.

Very nice! I keep my 1000sss at 6" on my frag tank set up. Any deeper and your gonna have more overflow issues, and less ability to fine tune the water level. Nice light by the way. I used an mp10 on my 40b when I had it set up, and it worked fine.

Good to know:)
Looking very nice! I like the frag rack idea in the sump
Thanks!

Thanks, you're welcome to stop by again and check it out;)

Yep, plan on making an adjustable stand for the skimmer. I had the glass cut so that I would have a slight overflow into the frag side of the tank, also had to keep it high enough so the frags had room to grow. My approx gph for the tank will be around 1400 or so... will prolly still have a korillia or maxi jet in there:)

Never get tire of these 40b, I might even start one myself full of nems. Tanks looking great, more pictures if you would.

Smoked glass doors reminiscent of the Oceanic Tech Stands would look awesome, especially cuz you could see the frag tank through it.

Are you going to run your frag tank on an opposite lighting schedule?

Thought about the smoked glass idea, but will prolly go in another direction. 99% sure I'm gonna do the reverse light cycle to keep things as balanced as possible.

Got the aquascape looking like I want(for the most part) it. I used acrylic rods and a lil bit of super glue. Also finished the skimmer stand with removable/adjustable legs. If anyone wants a pic of that let me know and I'll try and post one. Took the pic with my cell so its a little bright/noisy but you get the idea:)

I have mine in 7 1/2" of water in my sump and never had an overflow problem. Only time i have an overflow problem is if the power kills and fills my sump to the top, then when the power kicks back on my return cant get the water out fast enough causing an overflow.

Ok, great! I like to go with the depth they say is optimal for that model. And yes I had same issue with return. Glad to here you don't have issues.
