x2!

Diatom issue resolve itself?

The Diatom quickly resolved itself.. usually adding more flow has resolved it quickly for me; however I have more things to sort out at the moment... since I had to take the fuge down there is not much for nutrient export. carbon dosing and a skimmer dont do a lot, but then I dont beleive in driving things to the extreme... nature has a way to strike back.,,.... bottomline for me I'm very environment conscious... too much dollars at stake :popworm:

Along the way summer joined us...

But soon.... some major updates coming soon

You got some great looking corals. I can't wait to have mine grow in as well as pick up quite a few more.

the corals have a long way to go... some of the amazing tanks on RC and on here keep this journey interesting.. I've been tracking your progress... you're falling behind

Its summer! .. time for some gardening :kackle:

My SW already puts my planted tank to shame, with this I hope to put my sod to shame :greenguy:

The ATS light rig, has been working quite well.. LEDs are the 660nm from Ledgroupbuy and two Cree XTE royal blue. all driven by a meanwell constant current driver @ 700ma. I plant to clean the screen later today... that will be a good indicator of how this one turns out. nothing like DG's mess though

ATS :micro:

Strategy: Firm beleiver the biggest isnt (always) the best; The size that was suggested for my tank and feeding regimen was 2x 48" T5 with dual sides (same as what DG runs currently)... but that was more than a year ago and now the recommendation has changed. So I took the new recommendation cut it into half and started with half of that by lighting only one side. This is a standard waterfall model

My feeding regimen is feeding upto four times a day a mix of new life spectrum small fish and medium fish pellet food; dosed using a Ehiem fish feeder. Nori, as and when I please, as much as I please ; sometimes me and my kids join the fish for a sushi meal ; frozen food - a variety packaged cubes, DIY blender mush, Cyclops eeze, mysis shrimp.. atleast once a day if I'm home and can be upto 8 times a day.. depends on my relaxed mind quotient.. the more relaxed the more food; thankfully I am vegetarian

first 5 days the lights were on 24x 7, next 9-10 days lights on for 18 hours; first cleaning after almost 15 days since initial setup. the algae is sticking to the screen... had a hard time cleaning the little mess that was there.

Must mention I also restarted my fuge 4-5 days ago to combat the rampant hair algae; this is in keeping with my enthusiasm for horticulture :greenguy:

The skimmer has been offline for over 40 days now; not being irresponsible but havent made the time to bring it back online after a early morning overflow event; had to rush to work so the simple thing was to unplug it.

Snagged a few pics before lights out last night -

Some named acro..

Bird of paradise, back from being practically gone

Monti Island, a few more will be added to this side of the tank once the temps outside begin to drop

Red Hornets, not a good pic

ORA Sponogodes(?) and Magicians (also back from the brink)
DSC_0403.jpg

ORA Red planet, this has been a near miss, got if from Dobbs about 3 years ago, the main frag died within two days of adding to my 180G but a 2mm spot on the rock held on ... just started taking off nicely in the 240

Not sure what these are, dont look like eagles

ORA Chips, once a nice showpeice acro in my tank, this one had the misfortune of ending up in the sand upside down while i was on vacation.. coming back very nicely

FTS - Until the tank cleans up I am not reading anymore of Adam's posts... the pics make my tank look terrible

The water level in the tank is higher as I'm currently running the return pump full blast to help keep the temps low

To the eye the tank is much brighter.. had a hard time trying to get the camera to get a real pic. The LEDs are still being driven at about 30% of configured potential.. largely because my wife is holding me hostage... she promised to program the Arduino mega once "other" projects are completed first.

Just a different camera setting

Long way to go before the coral grow out and tank is anywhere near presentable. the hair algae situation is improving.. much less than last week.

Looks great. Love the aquascaping. Gotta love the Kole Tang picking at the top glass. Very nice!

It was spooky the first few days it did that... it would kind of come out of the water and go munch munch... the sound was clearly audible

So the DIY LED have been running for sometime now... and I like the look of the tank, its whiter than most folks like. Also bought 8 TV's from LEDgroup buy to see what it does, will make sometime soon to solder them. another thing is if I ever redo my rig AND I can find a good emitter I will switch the Coolwhites (esp Cree CW's) with a white in a higher kelvin rating... something like 10K or more... the key here is a "White LED" meaning the diode uses a phosphor that makes it a white LED.

I can always repurpose the Cree CW's to grow my plants

Anyone know of a good 10K + white emitter? Source/link to there website would be aweome.

update on the ATS, has been doing pretty well, the algae is growing faster and thicker. however its also started establishing itself inside the spray bar... which means now there is lower water flowing. I may have a way to resolve this, still in the experimental stage

I'm still in the setup phase of my 162 gallon (72x20x26) reef tank (I have almost everything I need to start the build) and love to see your tanks progression! Do you want to stop by and do my aquascaping once I get to that point! LOL, I swear it takes me hours to just figure it out and the next day I end up hating it! I like the bridges and overhangs you setup especially.

How do you like your drain setup? Would you change anything about it if you did it all over again? Would you put an overflow cover over the drains themselves? This is actually the one thing I have been debating over on my tank build due to I need to drill it. Would you rather have the two drains split at each end of the tank instead?
The GHA actually looks to be a part of your design layout for the tank too!
